Work on I-49 to close lanes after holiday

LOWELL — Highway constructi­on on Interstate 49 is expected to ramp up after the Fourth of July holiday and highway department officials have announced numerous overnight lane closings to accommodat­e the work.

Constructi­on work on I-49 in Rogers, Lowell and Springdale requires overnight lane closings, according to Arkansas Highway and Transporta­tion Department officials.

Continuing Wednesday night, crews will perform mainlane paving on north and south I-49. The inside and outside lanes will alternatel­y be closed from Wagon Wheel Road, exit 76, to New Hope Road, exit 83, to allow for constructi­on.

The overnight closings will be in effect through Saturday morning and Sunday night through the morning of July 15.

■ North I-49 lane closings will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

■ South I-49 lane closings will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Also, crews hanging signs over I-49 will require closing south lanes for 15-minute periods in Lowell.

Workers will close all south lanes for 15-minute intervals on Wednesday night between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Lanes will be closed between mile markers 79 and 78.

ARKANSAS 72 CLOSINGS

Constructi­on on I-49 in Bentonvill­e will require overnight lane closings on Arkansas 72, according to highway department officials.

Beginning Wednesday night, bridge demolition on the Arkansas 72 bridge, exit 88, will require east and west lane closings between McClain Road and McCollum Drive. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Arkansas 72 between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the following nights:

■ Wednesday through Friday. ■ Sunday through July 14.

■ July 16 through July 21.

■ July 23 through July 28.

ARKANSAS 112 CLOSINGS

Work associated with constructi­ng the U.S. 412 Northern Bypass will require a lane closing on Arkansas 112, according to highway department officials.

Beginning Wednesday, one lane of traffic will remain open on Arkansas 112 between Carrie Smith Road and West Miller Road as crews lay asphalt pavement. The lane closing will alternate between the north and south lanes. The lane closing will occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following days:

■ Wednesday through Saturday.

■ July 10 through July 15.
