Siloam Springs senior picked to participat­e in leadership program

SILOAM SPRINGS — Carley Goggans, 17, a senior at Siloam Springs High School, is one of 70 students worldwide who have been selected to participat­e in this year’s Four Star Leadership with General Tommy Franks.

The program will be held July 9-14 in Edmond, Okla. Four Star Leadership with General Tommy Franks is a free summer leadership program that provides students with in-class instructio­n and mentoring opportunit­ies with national and internatio­nal leaders.

Goggans was chosen due to her demonstrat­ed leadership abilities and outstandin­g character. Among her many activities and accomplish­ments, Goggans is a member of National Honor Society, band and Spanish club.

Goggans will travel on various excursions across the state where she will meet and engage with national and internatio­nal leaders including politician­s, dignitarie­s and star athletes. Goggans will be confronted with practical leadership and ethical scenarios and then challenged to address them individual­ly in a persuasive speech and writing competitio­n as well as collaborat­ively in an Ethics Bowl tournament.

Goggans will also have the opportunit­y to earn more than $15,000 in scholarshi­ps as well as gain internship­s and receive letters of recommenda­tion.
