Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - - WEATHER - STAFF REPORT

SILOAM SPRINGS — Carley Goggans, 17, a senior at Siloam Springs High School, is one of 70 students worldwide who have been selected to participate in this year’s Four Star Leadership with General Tommy Franks.

The program will be held July 9-14 in Edmond, Okla. Four Star Leadership with General Tommy Franks is a free summer leadership program that provides students with in-class instruction and mentoring opportunities with national and international leaders.

Goggans was chosen due to her demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding character. Among her many activities and accomplishments, Goggans is a member of National Honor Society, band and Spanish club.

Goggans will travel on various excursions across the state where she will meet and engage with national and international leaders including politicians, dignitaries and star athletes. Goggans will be confronted with practical leadership and ethical scenarios and then challenged to address them individually in a persuasive speech and writing competition as well as collaboratively in an Ethics Bowl tournament.

Goggans will also have the opportunity to earn more than $15,000 in scholarships as well as gain internships and receive letters of recommendation.
