School board gets in brief meet­ing be­fore year ends

School board mem­bers met for seven min­utes in Su­per­in­ten­dent Ken Ramey’s of­fice on June 29 to take care of a few agenda items be­fore the dis­trict’s fis­cal year ended June 30.

Board mem­bers ap­proved a low bid of $23,393.62 from CMC Seal­coat­ing and Linestrip­ing for the seal­ing and strip­ing of the South­side El­e­men­tary School park­ing lot. Two other bids were submitted, in­clud­ing a bid of $28,432.21 from S&S Inc., and a bid of $32,970.30 from McCormick Works.

As­sis­tant su­per­in­ten­dent Jody Wig­gins rec­om­mended School Board mem­bers ap­prove the low bid, ex­plain­ing CMC Seal­coat­ing and Linestrip­ing did the strip­ing in the Mid­dle School and North­side El­e­men­tary School park­ing lots a few years ago. The dis­trict was pleased with the com­pany’s work, Wig­gins said.

In other busi­ness, the board ac­cepted the res­ig­na­tion of four teach­ers: Jenna Hall, Allen El­e­men­tary School re­source teacher; Sara Lawhorn, High School math teacher; Kevin Co­hea, Main Street Academy lan­guage arts teacher; and Latasha Armer, High School English teacher.

The board also ap­proved hir­ing four teach­ers: Bar­bara Peevy­house, High School English teacher; Katie Oakes, High School busi­ness teacher; Darrin Brock, High School math teacher; and Tara Sallee, In­ter­me­di­ate School math and sci­ence teacher.

Fi­nally, board mem­bers ap­proved the trans­fer of five stu­dents into the Siloam Springs School Dis­trict from the Gen­try School Dis­trict; the trans­fer of two stu­dents from Siloam Springs Schools into Gen­try School Dis­trict; and the trans­fer of two stu­dents from Siloam Springs School Dis­trict to Ben­tonville School Dis­trict.

The next school board meet­ing will be held at 5:30 p.m. July 20, in the board room at Siloam Springs Mid­dle School.
