■ Comparatively few people in Arkansas realize that in our own state there is a girls’ school which attracts each year students from 15 to 20 different states. This institution is Crescent and Conservatory in Eureka Springs. Crescent was the first school to announce itself a Junior College. It is the only girls’ school known which frankly admits the natural ambition of girls is to become wives and mothers, and has introduced a department of Child Welfare, teaching the essentials which every young woman should know.

■ At the 1928 November election the people of Arkansas voted a majority for a law to prohibit the teaching of the theory of evolution in the state’s public schools. ■ CONWAY — Mobile ice cream vendors accustomed to asking excited children what flavors of frozen treats they want will soon be required to answer a few questions themselves, such as whether they are properly insured and if they have any criminal convictions in their background. With little discussion, the Conway City Council voted 8-0 Tuesday night to approve an ordinance requiring mobile ice-cream vendors to obtain city permits. Alderman David Grimes, the father of three young children, has stated concerns about the possibility of a child being kidnapped by someone in a moving vehicle.
