100 YEARS AGO July 27, 1917

■ Plans for the registration tomorrow of the women of Arkansas for war service and food conservation work have been completed, and registration places have been arranged for each ward and precinct in the county. Volunteers will act as registration officials and the booths will be open from 9 a.m. until noon and from 3 to 6 p.m. The women who register will sign two cards. One is for service during the war and the other is a pledge to aid in the conservation of the food supply of the nation.

50 YEARS AGO July 27, 1967

■ Three North little Rock homes were slightly damaged by fire bombs late Tuesday and early Wednesday, the police said Wednesday. A glass bottle filled with gasoline or kerosene and topped with a lighted wick was thrown at the home of Floyd Kelley of 906 East Sixteenth Street. A similar bomb was thrown at a house occupied by Lennie Hopkins of 801 East Sixteenth Street about two hours later. Witnesses told the police that a white car was seen leaving both the Kelley and the Hopkins homes after the bottles were thrown.

■ A Jacksonville father has taken his fight to Washington, D.C., where he hopes to get help in discovering what caused his three month old son to die in 1985. Jeff Shelton of Jacksonville is a quiet, unassuming man. But when his son, Joseph, died under circumstances that have remained unanswered by the public health agencies for nearly seven years, Shelton said he had to do something.

CONWAY — A man who was out on parole and has been in and out of prison since the 1990s was charged with capital murder Thursday in the slaying last month of a Conway florist. Charles Earl Glenn Jr., 34, also was charged with two counts of theft of property and fraudulent use of a credit card in connection with Cynthia Farmer’s death. Faulkner County Coroner Patrick Moore has said Farmer, who worked for Ye Olde Daisy Shoppe, bled to death in her home on Conway’s east side from cutting injuries. Authorities believe Farmer, 47, died either late June 27 or early June 28.
