■ Don­ald Roots-Scott Jr., 23, of Sacra­mento, Calif., stopped for driv­ing nearly 90 mph near Cov­ing­ton, La., was ar­rested on drug charges when St. Tam­many Par­ish sheriff’s deputies re­ported find­ing 2 pounds of mar­i­juana in ce­real boxes in his car.

■ Sid­ney Fahren­bruch, 4, who wants to be a po­lice of­fi­cer and wears a spe­cially sized uni­form, met of­fi­cer David Bon­day at a bar­be­cue and, ac­cord­ing to her mother, en­listed the of­fi­cer’s help in in­spect­ing the fam­ily’s new home in Long­mont, Colo., to make sure it was mon­ster-free.

■ Maryanne Ja­cob­smeyer, 51, of Nashua, N.H., broke into a 92-yearold man’s home, re­strained him with duct tape and stole his debit card to with­draw money to go shop­ping, re­sult­ing in her ar­rest on kid­nap­ping and other charges, po­lice said. ■ Richard Basaraba, 73, said he was “dev­as­tated” over be­ing banned from a beach in Vo­lu­sia County, Fla., for vi­o­lat­ing anti-so­lic­it­ing laws af­ter safety of­fi­cials got com­plaints that he was hand­ing out busi­ness cards to young women that read, “Su­gar­daddy seek­ing his sug­arbaby.”

■ Bran­don Giles, a U.S. Coast Guard petty of­fi­cer, said a shed that sits on a tiny float­ing dock and sports a paint­ing of a blue­tailed mer­maid is now con­sid­ered a derelict ves­sel af­ter it bobbed about 200 miles from Key West, Fla., to the Louisiana coast.

■ Charles Carey, a sheriff’s lieu­tenant in Spot­syl­va­nia County, Va., said a man was charged with ab­duc­tion and as­sault af­ter a woman and her two chil­dren, held cap­tive for more than two years, es­caped out a side door when deputies ar­rived to check on them.

■ Bar­bara Bald­win, deputy au­di­tor for Mitchell County, Iowa, said none of the town of McIn­tire’s 70 reg­is­tered vot­ers turned out Tues­day for a spe­cial elec­tion to de­cide whether to set the mayor’s term at four years and to stag­ger the terms of coun­cil mem­bers.

■ Scott Waite, a po­lice sergeant in Glen­dale, Ariz., said a fight be­tween two driv­ers that be­gan af­ter one ve­hi­cle cut off an­other ended when one of the women put the other in head­lock and the re­strained woman shot and wounded her at­tacker.
