In­ter­state 49 lane clos­ings an­nounced

Im­prove­ment work to In­ter­state 49 will re­quire tem­po­rary lane clos­ings in sev­eral ar­eas.

Lanes will be closed in Ben­tonville and Rogers, ac­cord­ing to Arkansas Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion of­fi­cials.

Be­gin­ning Sun­day night, crews will lay as­phalt, which will re­quire the north and south out­side lanes to al­ter­nately be closed be­tween South­east Wal­ton Boule­vard, Exit 85, and Cen­tral Av­enue, Exit 88. The clos­ings will be be­tween 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Aug. 12.

Traf­fic will be con­trolled us­ing signs and traf­fic bar­rels.

Con­struc­tion on I-49 in Ben­tonville will re­quire day­time lane clos­ings on Cen­tral Av­enue, high­way of­fi­cials said.

Be­gin­ning Sun­day night, crews will work on Cen­tral Av­enue, which will re­quire east and west lanes to al­ter­nately be closed be­tween McCol­lum Drive and Woods Creek Road. The clos­ings will be be­tween 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Aug. 26.

Traf­fic us­ing the I-49 en­trance and exit ramps at Exit 88 may be af­fected dur­ing the clos­ings. Traf­fic will be con­trolled with traf­fic bar­rels and flag­gers.

The projects are part of AHTD’s Con­nect­ing Arkansas Pro­gram and in­clude widen­ing more than 3 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each di­rec­tion.

Con­struc­tion on I-49 in Fayet­teville be­tween Porter Road and Gar­land Av­enue has re­duced traf­fic to two lanes in each di­rec­tion. Mo­torists go­ing north should an­tic­i­pate merg­ing from three lanes to two lanes be­fore the Wed­ing­ton in­ter­change.

In Au­gust 2016, the Arkansas High­way Com­mis­sion awarded a $94.8 mil­lion con­tract to Kiewit In­fra­struc­ture South of Fort Worth, Texas, for the project. The project will widen I-49 to three lanes in each di­rec­tion and im­prove the Gar­land Av­enue in­ter­change.

Traf­fic will be con­trolled with signs and traf­fic cones.
