Interstate 49 lane closings announced
Improvement work to Interstate 49 will require temporary lane closings in several areas.
Lanes will be closed in Bentonville and Rogers, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation officials.
Beginning Sunday night, crews will lay asphalt, which will require the north and south outside lanes to alternately be closed between Southeast Walton Boulevard, Exit 85, and Central Avenue, Exit 88. The closings will be between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Aug. 12.
Traffic will be controlled using signs and traffic barrels.
Construction on I-49 in Bentonville will require daytime lane closings on Central Avenue, highway officials said.
Beginning Sunday night, crews will work on Central Avenue, which will require east and west lanes to alternately be closed between McCollum Drive and Woods Creek Road. The closings will be between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Aug. 26.
Traffic using the I-49 entrance and exit ramps at Exit 88 may be affected during the closings. Traffic will be controlled with traffic barrels and flaggers.
The projects are part of AHTD’s Connecting Arkansas Program and include widening more than 3 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction.
Construction on I-49 in Fayetteville between Porter Road and Garland Avenue has reduced traffic to two lanes in each direction. Motorists going north should anticipate merging from three lanes to two lanes before the Wedington interchange.
In August 2016, the Arkansas Highway Commission awarded a $94.8 million contract to Kiewit Infrastructure South of Fort Worth, Texas, for the project. The project will widen I-49 to three lanes in each direction and improve the Garland Avenue interchange.
Traffic will be controlled with signs and traffic cones.
