Wind­stream falls; state in­dex up 1.72

The Arkansas In­dex, a price-weighted in­dex that tracks the largest pub­lic com­pa­nies based in the state, rose 1.72 to 349.03 Mon­day.

“The ma­jor av­er­ages closed in pos­i­tive ter­ri­tory as in­vestors re­sponded to the lat­est rounds of geopolitical news and earn­ings re­ports,” said Bob Wil­liams, se­nior vice pres­i­dent and manag­ing direc­tor of Sim­mons First In­vest­ment Group Inc. in Lit­tle Rock.

Wind­stream shares saw con­tin­ued weak­ness fall­ing 4.9 per­cent on strong vol­ume.

The in­dex was de­vel­oped by Bloomberg News and the Demo­crat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
