New boat for NEBCO
Firefighters with the Northeast Benton County (NEBCO) Fire Department help move a new fire and rescue boat to a trailer Wednesday at the main fire station in Garfield. The boat is 32 feet long and is equipped for firefighting and rescue work on Beaver Lake, said Kara Funk, president of the NEBCO board of directors. Much of the department’s response area is on the north end of the lake. The boat cost $360,000. One-third of the cost was funded with grants and donations, Funk said. The boat was custom built in Seattle and delivered to the fire station Wednesday morning. Features include four water discharge points for firefighting and a heated and cooled cabin for emergency transport of patients. It is powered by twin 300 horsepower outboard motors. The boat will be docked at Lost Bridge Village, Funk added.
