The Fayetteville Public Library will be featuring presentations from two authors this week. Local author Velda Brotherton will be the featured speaker at the Second Sunday Local Author Series at 2 p.m on Sunday and 2017 Independent Publisher Program Gold Medal for Contemporary Fiction author Romalyn Tilghman will be speaking at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

At the age of 81, the prolific Brotherton writes one or two books a year. Her most recent book is “Tyra’s Gambler,” a novel she describes as a “western historical romance based on the legend of the Seven Spanish Angels.”

“Much of Brotherton’s work is centered around an Ozark theme, both fiction and non-fiction,” says FPL Adult Services manager Heather Robideaux. “She’ll be speaking about her fiction work at this event, but she’s also written a lot of nonfiction that gets a lot of traction at the library. “’Arkansas Meals and Memories: Lift Your Eyes to the Mountains,’ ‘The Boston Mountains: Lost in the Ozarks’ … she writes across many genres and she is a delight to work with.”

Romalyn Tilghman will be discussing her newest book, “To the Stars Through Difficulties.”

“It’s a gentle tale that celebrates the strength of people after tragedy,” says Robideaux. Booklist’s review said that “this charming debut will appeal to women’s fiction fans of gentle reads.”

“It also celebrates the roles of library in the community,” adds Robideaux. “She’ll talk about her work and then do a reading. We have a such a strong group of writers who come to these events, so there will also be a Q and A for people who want to know what the writer’s process is and other questions like that.”

At both events, the authors’ books will be available for purchase and signing following the discussion.
