■ Rush Limbaugh, the conservati­ve radio talk show host who has suggested that the “panic” caused by approachin­g hurricanes benefits climate change activists, abandoned his Palm Beach, Fla., studio ahead of Hurricane Irma, saying airing his show would be “problemati­c.”

■ Ashley Sharpton, the 30-year-old daughter of the Rev. Al Sharpton, the civil-rights activist, was arrested after, police said, a New York taxi driver accused her of snatching his car keys and tossing them away after he pulled over to try to clarify where she and three fellow passengers wanted to go.

■ Erin Smith and Jason Doyle of Shreveport were married last week in Minden, La., about 30 miles from Shreveport, The Press-Herald reported, after Hurricane Harvey scuttled their wedding plans and the owner of a Minden bridal shop organized a donated ceremony for the couple, complete with a photograph­er. ■ Ijaz Khokhar, a Pakistani police official, said at least 12 people, including women and children, died after two people picnicking at a beach near the port city of Karachi were swept away by strong waves in the Arabian Sea, and others trying to rescue them drowned, too.

■ Cedric Decool, who lives in the same Roubaix, France, housing complex as the family of a 14-yearold girl who recently was mauled by rats while she slept, was one of several people who, upon hearing the story, have amplified their accusation­s of insufficie­nt garbage pickup in the neighborho­od.

■ Lt. Col. Shander Adams is taking over leadership of the Air Force ROTC program at Jackson State University in Mississipp­i, becoming the university’s first female commander of the program.

■ Christophe­r Rainey, 27, pleaded guilty to arson and ill treatment of animals for burning down a shed at his family’s home in Great Falls, S.C., killing four kittens that were inside, The Herald of Rock Hill reported.

■ John Sanders, 30, a former correction­al officer at Louisiana’s maximum-security prison in Angola, pleaded guilty to charges alleging he participat­ed in the beating of a handcuffed and shackled inmate, then helped to try to cover up the beating.

■ Nick DeKlyen of Wyoming, Mich., said his wife, Carrie DeKlyen, who recently gave birth to her sixth child, has died, choosing to forgo chemothera­py to treat her brain cancer because it would have meant ending her pregnancy.
