UCA to prohibit bags at ticketed events
Beginning with the fall 2017 sports season, the University of Central Arkansas athletics department will implement a no-bag policy at all ticketed athletic events. Bags containing medical and childcare needs will be permitted, but will be subject to search.
The policy came in response to the new Arkansas concealed carry law. It was developed with the aid of the UCA Police Department and the university administration to enhance safety at athletic events, according to the university.
Blankets, cameras, radios, water bottles, binoculars, seat cushions and portable chair backs will be allowed in Estes Stadium, but each will be subject to search. Guests carrying bags to the gates will be asked to return them to their vehicles.
The first ticketed event will be the football game against Southeastern Louisiana at 7:15 p.m Saturday. The stadium and parking lots have been updated with signs to mark the new policies.
UCA will also close the stadium gates strategically during games for security purposes. Field-level entry will be gained only through Gate 4 on the south side of the west ticket office with a valid access credential. Gates will be monitored throughout the game and ticket sales will continue through the middle of the third quarter.
