■ William Bruso, a Houston cabdriver, helped Erich Newport of the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center release back into the wild Harvey, a juvenile Cooper’s hawk that darted into Burso’s taxicab for shelter during Hurricane Harvey. ■ Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, a pediatrici­an who helped call attention to childhood health risks from exposure to lead in the Flint, Mich., water supply, is one of five people honored with $250,000 prizes from the Pittsburgh-based Heinz Family Foundation.

■ Mike Morell, former acting director of the CIA, abruptly resigned as a senior fellow at Harvard University over the school’s decision to hire as a visiting fellow Chelsea Manning, who was convicted of leaking classified informatio­n.

■ Haley Fischetti, 27, was charged with chemical endangerme­nt of a child after being arrested on traffic charges and telling police that she was six months pregnant and had used heroin and other drugs, said Sheriff Todd Entrekin of Etowah County, Ga.

■ Maria ChappelleN­adal, a Democratic lawmaker in Missouri, is refusing to resign after being reprimande­d by the state Senate for posting on social media “I hope Trump is assassinat­ed!” before deleting it a short time later and apologizin­g for the comment.

■ Jerry Jeff Walker, 75, the Texas country singer and songwriter who wrote the pop song, “Mr. Bojangles,” has donated his music archives, including master tapes, photograph­s, handwritte­n lyrics and other artifacts, to The Wittliff Collection­s at Texas State University in San Marcos. ■ Isaac Gatlin and Kordell Summers, both 19, face robbery and assault charges after they ordered pizza sent to an abandoned house in Natchez, Miss., and then assaulted the 64-yearold delivery driver, getting no cash but taking three pizzas, sheriff’s deputies said. ■ Henry Jackson, 65, a longtime constable in Tyler, Texas, who pleaded guilty to failing to file income tax returns from 2010-13, was sentenced to six months in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $157,000 in restitutio­n, prosecutor­s said. ■ Kelsey Anderson, 17, in a statement released by her attorney, said she was “mortified,” when one of her teachers in Joplin, Mo., sent her to the principal’s office for violating the school dress code, telling her during class that she was too “busty” and that “plus-sized women” need to shop at stores that sell larger clothing.
