SPRINGDALE — Dan Hendricks of Springdale, age 84, passed away on Tuesday evening Sept. 12, 2017. He was born Dec. 18, 1932, in Owasso, Okla., to Bertha Ann Krallman Hendricks and Howard Hendricks.

Dan along with his mother, brothers, and stepfather (Carter Plemons) later moved to Arkansas and Dan attended school at Frisco Springs and Hickory Creek. He graduated in 1950 from Springdale High School where he was a three-sport letterman. Further education included a year each in Coffeyvill­e, Kan., and Lamar, Colo., on football scholarshi­ps before being drafted by the Army in 1953. He completed his education at the University of Maryland under the “bootstrap” program while in the U.S. Military with a degree in Political Science.

Dan was in the military from 1953 to 1973, serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. During his service, he attended many schools including the Anti-aircraft Artillery and Guided Missile School, the Special Warfare School, and the Command and General Staff College. Dan was a Green Beret serving with the elite Special Forces in combat during two tours in Vietnam and retiring with the rank of Major. During his military career, he received numerous awards and citations including multiple awards of the Bronze Star for Valor and the Air Medal for Heroism.

Following retirement from the military, Dan entered the field of banking where he managed lending and credit functions. He retired from banking after 17 years but found himself ending his retirement in 2004 to help with the start-up of Signature Bank of Arkansas where he

remained until again retiring in 2011. Dan had been in declining health for some time primarily due to the effects of Agent Orange exposure while in Vietnam.

He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 29½ years, and his daughter, Karen Cordell and husband Mike of Springdale along with Marilyn’s son, Barry Guinn and Barry’s son, Greysen, of Madison, Wis. Also surviving Dan is his daughter, Sharon Perry and husband Mack of Springdale, along with two grandchild­ren and four great-grandchild­ren. He is further survived by two brothers — his twin brother, Don of Fayettevil­le and Bert of Springdale.

Dan was predecease­d by his son, Terry Hal Hendricks, in 1983.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Fayettevil­le National Cemetery at 1 p.m. with military honors.

SPRINGDALE — James

Ronald Parnell, 65, of Springdale, Ark., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayettevil­le, Ark.

Ron wa s born on Aug. 6, 1952, the son of James William Parnell and Merry Christine ( Chance) Parnell in Louisville, Ky. He attended Freed-Hardeman College, Oklahoma Christian University and then attended and graduated from John A. Gupton College in Nashville, Tenn., in 1978 with a degree in Mortuary Science.

Ron is survived by his wife of 43 years Beth, of Springdale; his daughter, Cara Sedberry and husband, Clayton of Springdale; his son Heath Parnell, wife Caitlin and grandson Thaddaeus of Vancouver, British Columbia; his mother, Christine McAllister and sister Linda Silvey of Bristol, Tenn.; as well as many extended family members and many students he considered to be part of his family.

He enjoyed hunting, leatherwor­k, woodworkin­g and making walking sticks and hunting knives for his friends. His greatest passion, however, was sharing his love of horsemansh­ip and sportsmans­hip with young people. He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, wit and his ability to create a clever and inviting turn of phrase.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. at Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale. The family invites friends to remain after to share memories and celebrate Ron’s life. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ron’s life.

WEST FORK — Billy

Carl Elkins, 64, of West Fork passed away peace fully Sept. 12, 2017. He was born Dec. 11, 1952, to Donald Billy and Mamie Louise Tucker Elkins; both preceded him in death.

Bill is survived by two daughters, Michelle and Jeremy Doss and Aimee Walton; five grandchild­ren, Regan, Taylor, Kennedy, Jonathan and Serenity; two brothers with spouses, Larry and Brenda Elkins and Rob and Leslie Elkins; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was an avid car enthusiast, hunter and served in the military as an Army Reservist.
