Temple Shalom of Northwest Arkansas in Fayetteville, 699 N. Sang Ave., plans many activities to celebrate the High Holidays.
Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, is Thursday and Friday. Activities include, Wednesday — an evening service at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday — morning service, 10 a.m.; children’s service, 11:15 a.m. to noon; potluck, noon; Tashlich and dessert, 2:30 p.m. at Wilson Park in Fayetteville; Friday — morning service, 8:30 a.m.; Kiddush and refreshments, 11 a.m.; service continues, 11:30 a.m.; potluck, 2:30 p.m.

Victory Full Gospel Church in Fayetteville, 1555 John Miller Road, plans a singing this weekend. The George Boys and more perform at 6 p.m. today. REGION
First Baptist Church in Greenland, 273 W. Wilson St., celebrates 50 years of ministry in a celebration today. Games for children and youth begin at 4 p.m. A grilled meal of hot dogs, hamburgers and homemade desserts is served at 5 p.m. The church’s four remaining charter members and former pastors will share testimonies and music will be provided after the meal.

Holiday Island Community Church, 188 Stateline Dr., offers a blessing of pets ceremony at 10 a.m. Sept. 30 at the flag poles at Veterans Memorial Park on Holiday Island. The event is held in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis, patron saint of animals. Dogs will be blessed at 10 a.m., and all other animals at 10:30 a.m. Pets should be contained in a carrier or on a leash.

Fellowship Bible Church of Northwest Arkansas, 1051 W. Pleasant Grove Road, Rogers, hosts Elizabeth Henry, once an orphan in Eastern Ukraine, at 7 p.m. Friday in “The Lodge” on the church campus. Henry, now the adopted daughter of an American family and a senior at Virginia Tech, received a shoe box from Operation Christmas Child and will share its impact on her life.
