BELLA VISTA — James “Philip” Jones, 64, of Bella Vista passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonvill­e. He was born Nov. 14, 1952, in Tullahoma, Tenn., to Claude Jones Jr. and Rosie Mae (Miller) Jones.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vera; and brother, Richard. Survivors include his wife, Susan Jones; daughter, Melissa Wallace-Jones; son, Jeff Jones; brothers: Vernon Jones and Claude Jones, both of Tennessee; sisters: Mae Bonnie of Duncanvill­e, Texas, Jewel Salas of Dallas, Texas, and Karen and Randy Barkley of Tyler, Texas; in-laws: Joyce Barnett and Johnny and Betty Wammack; and a host of nieces and nephews.

CLARKSVILL­E — Thomas E. Ferguson of Clarksvill­e, Ark., was born on June 23, 1948, and passed away Sept. 16, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Louise Ferguson of Little Rock.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Ferguson of Clarksvill­e; two children, Shea Hylton (Todd) of Clarksvill­e, Ark., and Josh Ferguson (Mindy) of Pea Ridge, Ark.; two sisters, Judy Wood of Mabelvale, Ark., and Anita Axelson of Poyen, Ark.; seven grandchild­ren, Blake Grubbs, Nate, and Hannah Kate Hylton, Troy, Finn, Wren, and Hutch Thomas Ferguson. Tom was a loving husband, father, son, and friend.

Tom was a graduate of Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas. He was an employee of the U.S. Forest Service for 31 years and served in the Navy on the USS Coral Sea. He was an avid outdoorsma­n and loved to hike, fish, and bike. He enjoyed his time volunteeri­ng on the Ouachita VISTA Trail.

GRAVETTE — Betty Jo Adams, 90, of Gravette passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017. She was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Mora, Minn., to the late William Henry Hageman and Mary Elizabeth Hacker Hageman.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded by a sister, Fern Coffelt and a brother, Lloyd Hageman. Her family’s migration from Minnesota included stops in Iowa and Missouri before planting roots on their farm east of Maysville.

Following graduation she headed west and a career of more than 30 years as a Los Angeles County Court Clerk. Upon retirement, Betty returned to Gravette where she shared her love of reading as a volunteer in the library, made handmade jewelry and shared her knitted creations with her family. She was an un-armed member of the NRA and will be remembered for her feisty personalit­y and strong opinions.

Survivors include her brother, Murray Hagman of Wyoming; 2 nieces, Carole Dixon of Siloam Springs and Kay Luben (Bill) of Wyoming; three nephews, William Hageman (Sharon) of Colorado, Lee Hageman (Cathy) of Kansas and John Coffelt (Sabrina) of Oklahoma; numerous extended family and dear friends.

Visitation will be from 1011 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22 at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonvill­e with a Graveside Funeral Service and interment Friday beginning at 1 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs. LINCOLN — Mary Jane Lowe, age 87, a resident of Lincoln, Ark., went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark. She was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Madera, Calif., the daughter of Wyette Stephen and Carrie Thomas (Andrews) Cheatham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. Lowe, her daughter Carol Faye Cate; five brothers, Cecil, Davie, Wayne, Lloyd and Loren Cheatham; two sisters, Bernice McGowan and Ruth “Tootsie” Kyle. Survivors include four sons, Steve Lowe, Jody L. Lowe, Marvin Lowe and Leon Lowe; one brother, Junior Cheatham; one sister, Esther Bottoms; numerous grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren and great-great-grandchild­ren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-7 p.m. at Luginbuel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, Ark. ROGERS — Retired Master Sergeant David Monroe Birmingham, 85, of Rogers passed away on Sept. 18, 2017. He was born in April 1932 in Tennessee to the late Chester and Lucy Birmingham.

He was the beloved husband of 60 years of Bessie Birmingham.

Retired MSG Birmingham was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, as well as Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During his 26 years of service in the Army, he received numerous commendati­ons including the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the National Defense Medal (with Bronze Star), and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.

In addition to decades of serving his country, David was a proud husband, father, grandfathe­r, and animal lover. He is a past master of Sunflower Masonic Lodge No. 86 in Wichita, Kan., and most recently a very proud member of the local VFW Post No. 3031 Honor Guard. In the years his family was growing, he enjoyed spending summers camping and boating on the lake. In his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling the world to visit new countries.

While all of his trips were special and talked about often, one of his most memorable trips was visiting the beaches of Normandy. His favorite hobby for more than 30 years was as a HAM Radio operator. This gave him the opportunit­y to meet and talk to people around the world. His great love for animals and nature is the reason he always had spoiled family pets and would take in strays that showed up in his yard. Even wild animals would get a free daily meal from him because he would say “They get hungry too.”

Survivors include his wife, Bessie of Rogers; children, David Birmingham, Jr. of Derby, Kan., Donald Birmingham of Derby, Kan., Donna Ragland of Rogers, Ark., Rebecca Bough of Bentonvill­e, Ark., JoAnn Johnson of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchild­ren; one great-grandchild; and his fur babies, Daisy, Lil Bit and Leggs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Lucy Birmingham; brothers, Eulas and Coatney Birmingham; and sisters, Anne Wood, Louise Beardain, Viola Hopper, and Sarah Birmingham.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21 at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Rollins Funeral Home. ROGERS — Alvin L. Johnson, a longtime resident of Rogers, Ark., died unexpected­ly on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017. At Mr. Johnson’s request, no services will be held.

HAUBSTADT, Ind. — Henry Maggard Jr., 80, of Haubstadt, Ind., died Sept. 15, 2017. Survivors: children, Hank Maggard, Brenda Marie (Henry) Trail, Brian (Rae) Maggard, Sandra Lucille (Anthony) Hicks; four

CLEARWATER, Kan. — Max Elmer Ives was born July 31, 1930, and died Sept. 17, 2017, at age 87.

He was a Western Auto salesman (Stockton Kan.) and Mobil gas station manager (Stockton, Kan.).

While living in Salina he was employed by Custom Metals as shop foreman, Great Plains Manufactur­ing shop foreman, Brown Welding warehouse manager and a Fire Extinguish­er warehouse manager and sales. He married LeVonne Lee Pauley on Aug. 12, 1951.

He was active in the Salina Heights Christian Church, various square dance clubs for many years. After retiring to Bella Vista, Ark., Max was an active golfer, member of the Bella Vista Men’s Chorus and the Highland Christian Church. Upon moving to Clearwater, Kan., he attended the First Baptist Church of Clearwater. Max and LeVonne traveled extensivel­y throughout their married lives.

Preceded in death by His wife LeVonne Pauley Ives, parents, Harold and Hilma (Fisher) Ives, brothers, AJ and Dean and a sister, Joyce Keeton. Survived by sisters: Elaine Yoxall, Ruth Fenton, Dixie Rose, Norma Moore. Children: Richard and Janet Ives (Clearwater, Kan.), Randall and Denise Ives (Omaha, Neb.), Ronald and Kathryn Ives (Martindale, Texas); four grandchild­ren; Tyler and Amy Ives (Garden Plain, Kan.), Amber Ives (Clearwater, Kan.), Alex and Gabriella Siefert (Batesville, Ind.), Grant and Sabra Ives (Forth Worth, Texas) and three great-grandchild­ren.
