UCA women win at home

The University of Central Arkansas scored four unanswered goals Friday to beat Lamar University 4-1 at the Bill Stephens Complex in Conway.

After Lamar took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute, Jordan Slim tied the game in the 33rd minute with a goal from 12 yards out. Five minutes later, UCA took a 2-1 lead as Dayna Mounie played a ball across the box that Ashley Smith was able to tip to Alex Moore, who scored from 4 yards out.

Maci Schoonover scored in the 56th minute, and Mounie scored in the 64th minute to claim the victory for the Bears.

ASU falls in Sun Belt opener

Sheridan Webb had 33 of Arkansas State University’s 42 assists and Timber Terrell had a team-high 11 kills Friday as the Red Wolves lost their Sun Belt Conference opener in four sets to Coastal Carolina on Friday at the Convocatio­n Center in Jonesboro.

Coastal Carolina (4-6, 1-0 Sun Belt Conference) jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first set and won 25-14. The second set was tied six times early on before Arkansas State (7-7, 0-1 Sun Belt) took it 2521. The Chanticlee­rs led 20-14 in the third set before the Red Wolves came back to tie the set at 25-25 on a kill from Kenzie Fields. Coastal Carolina scored the final two points to take the set 27-25, then took the match by winning the fourth set 25-18.

Leah Hardeman had 19 kills to lead Coastal Carolina, while Kyla Manning added 11 and Leah Levert had 10. Sara Booth led the Chanticlee­rs with 29 assists and Kate Federico had 17.

UA women perfect at Classic

The University of Arkansas, Fayettevil­le women’s team went 6-0 Friday at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

Seniors Leolia Jeanjean and Mia Jurasic, as well as sophomore Ana Oparenovic, advanced to today’s singles quarterfin­als, while Jurasic and Oparenovic also advanced to the doubles quarterfin­als.

Jeanjean won singles matches over Iowa’s Montana Crawford and Bailey Padgett of Butler. Oparenovic had a first-round bye and defeated Sasha Pisareva of Utah State in the second round. Jurasic defeated Anna Daniel-Fuentes of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the first singles round and defeated Wisconsin’s Sara Castellano in the second round.

In doubles play, Oparenovic and Jurasic defeated Castellano and Maryann Rompf of Wisconsin to advance.
