Elkins 46, Yellville-Summit 12

The Elks opened 3A-1 Conference play with a blowout win.

Chance Jones had 15 carries for 91 yards and three touchdowns for Elkins, and added an 81-yard kickoff return in the win.

Layne Evans had six catches for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Elkins quarterbac­k Quinn McClain completed 10 passes for 134 yards.

Shiloh Christian 35, Berryville 0

The Saints cruised to a 4A-1 Conference-opening win as Landon Brown fired four touchdown passes.

Shiloh Christian (3-1, 1-0) was never threatened in the road win as Brown hit Blake Thompson on scoring strikes of 40 and 10 yards. Jake Nelson and Truitt Tollett also caught scoring passes and Micah Button scored a rushing touchdown for the Saints.

Mountainbu­rg 55, Decatur 7

The Dragons rebounded from last week’s loss to mercy-rule Decatur in 2A-4 Conference action.

Jesse Quick got the Dragons on the board first, and Robert Roxin extended the lead to 15-o on a quarterbac­k keeper. Mountainbu­rg was never threatened the rest of the way.

Decatur’s lone touchdown came on a fumble return by safety Taylor Haisman, who picked up the loose ball and raced 40 yards for a Bulldogs’ touchdown.

Touchdowns by Mountainbu­rg’s Austin Taylor, Connor Rogers, Quick ended the first half 35-7.

Clinton 31, Greenland 6

Sophomore quarterbac­k Weston Amos rushed for two touchdowns and passed for a third to lead Clinton (4-0, 1-0) over Greenland (3-1, 0-1) in 3A-1 Conference action.

Senior Nate Lonnon added 60 yards rushing and one score for the Yellowjack­ets, who piled up 275 yards in offense.

Lonnon opened the scoring with 11:12 left in the first quarter when he ran 66 yards for a touchdown.

Amos added a 26-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Jacob Hagerman with 4:38 left.

It was all Amos in the second quarter. He scored on a 10-yard keeper with 10:22 left in the half and a 4-yard keeper with 2:04 left.

Amos finished the night with 7 carries for 42 yards and completed 5 of 7 passes for 84 yards and 1 intercepti­on.

The Pirates’ only score came with 2:06 left in the third quarter when senior Chandler Alaniz scored on a 2-yard run.

Melbourne 31, Mountain View 14

Stone Runyan returned an intercepti­on 50 yards for a touchdown as Melbourne (4-0, 1-0 3A-1) beat Mountain View (0-4, 0-1).

Silas Motes helped out with another touchdown.

Maumelle 21, Greenbrier 18

The Maumelle Hornets came from behind in the fourth quarter to score a touchdown and defeat Greenbrier, 21-18, in the 5A-West opener for each team.

Greenbrier (1-3, 0-1) scored touchdowns on a pass from Andrew Johnson to Talon Moore, a run by Spencer Sutterfiel­d and an intercepti­on return by Logan Beaird.

Maumelle improved its record to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the 5A-West.

Helena-West Helena 48, Baptist Prep 3

Terrance Calhoun rushed for two touchdowns and quarterbac­k Armonie Calhoun accounted for two touchdowns, all in the first half, as Helena-West Helena Central blitzed Baptist Prep 48-3 in a 2-4A game in Little Rock.

The Cougars (4-0) led 48-0 with 3:25 to go in the first half after Caldreekio­us Harrell ran for 54 yards to account for Helena-West Helena Central’s final touchdown and Kobe Simpson’s extra point.

Baptist Prep (0-4) got its first points of the season after driving to the Helena-West Helena 2 against the backup defense. The Cougars forced a 19-yard field goal by Allie Mead with 1:02 to go in the third, making the final score 48-3.

The Cougars needed 12 seconds to score, with Joseph Robinson taking the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown.

Simpson’s PAT made it 7-0 with 11:48 remaining in the first quarter.

Helena West-Helena got the ball back at its 48 after three Baptist Prep plays and a punt.

Quarterbac­k Armonie Calhoun scored on a 43-yard run to complete a 3-play, 52-yard possession. The extra-point attempt failed and the Cougars led 13-0 with 9:23 to go in the first quarter.

Helena-West Helena then needed two plays to go 61 yards after another Eagles punt.

Armonie Calhoun threw to Syieed Wilson for a 59-yard scoring pass with 3:55 left in the first quarter. Calhoun threw a shovel pass to Nathaniel Harvey for the two-point conversion to push the lead to 21-0.

The Cougars scored again after a punt when Terrance Calhoun capped off a four-play, 54-yard drive with a 24-yard touchdown run with 0:58 to go in the first quarter. The extra point failed, keeping the score at 27-0 Cougars.

Helena-West Helena added three more scores in the second quarter. Terrance Calhoun scored on a 9-yard run to finish an 8-play, 58-yard drive with 9:00 to go in the first half. Conail Murry ran in the two-point conversion to make it 35-0.

The Cougars scored again two plays after recovering a Baptist Prep fumble.

Sammie Arnett, who normally plays on the offensive line, scored on a 14yard run with 7:39 to go in the first half. The extra-point attempt failed making the score 41-0.

Danville 41, Western Yell Co. 19

Junior Quentin Tolbert carried 13 times for 106 yards and 4 touchdowns to help lead Danville (4-1, 3-0 2A-4) past Western Yell County (1-2, 0-2).

Junior quarterbac­k Preston Donnel rushed for one score and passed for another to help pace the Little Johns.

Tolbert got Danville going early, scoring on a 9-yard run with 8:40 left in the first quarter and a 1-yard run less than five minutes later.

He added a 2-yard touchdown run and a score from 1 yard out in the second quarter.

Donnel scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Cade Padget in the second.

The Wolverines were led by junior quarterbac­k Hunter Greenfield, who threw touchdown passes of 20 yards in the second and 56 in the fourth, both of them to junior wide receiver Nino Vongphakdy.CQ

Adrian Hernandez added an 8-yard touchdown run for Western Yell County.

Hamburg 28, Dewitt 8

Junior AndravyonC­Q Forrest caught two touchdown passes and ran another score for Hamburg (2-2, 1-0) in a comeback victory over DeWitt (1-3, 0-1).

Forrest accounted for a combined 163 yards in offense for the Lions, who were down 8-7 at halftime.

Forrest caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterbac­k Jonathan Kelley for Hamburg’s first score in the second quarter. He scored on a 35-yard run and caught a 21-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter to allow Hamburg to pull away.

Forrest finished with 87 rushing yards rushing and 76 receiving yards. Kelley completed 11 passes for 160 yards.

Junior Caleb Bridges added 100 yards rushing, including an 86-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that gave the Lions the lead.

Cabot 42, LR Catholic 20

The third quarter belonged to the Cabot Panthers in Friday’s 7A-Central Conference opener against Little Rock Catholic.

Cabot used a 15-play, 73-yard drive in the third quarter that resulted in senior John Wiens’ 4-yard touchdown run, and the Panthers went on to defeat the Rockets at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
