III, 67, of Bella Vista, Ark., died at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale on Sept. 19, 2017. He was born Nov. 28, 1949, to Clarence Andrews, Jr. and Doanna (Wilson) Andrews in Fredonia, Kan.

Clarence served his country in the Navy for over 11 years.

Preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Meredith Andrews.

Left to cherish his memories are his fiancee, Ann Harvison; son, Paul (Alisha) Andrews; daughters, Mischa (Tony) Phillips, Jesse (David) Roth, Christin (Brandyn) Shipman, Sarah Andrews and Whitney Andrews; brothers, Doug (Michelle) and Carl Andrews; and 16 grandchild­ren.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Calvary Baptist Church in Joplin, Mo.

BELLA VISTA — Velma Eileen Ferguson Millsap,

96, passed away at Highlands Healthcare & Rehab in Bella Vista, Ark., on Sept. 21, 2017. Velma was born Aug. 15, 1921, at Habberton, Ark. She was the daughter of James Westwood and Ella Irene Stone Ferguson, pioneer families of Washington County.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the Hickory Flat School. She married Harold Jacob Millsap, May 7, 1938, in Springdale. He preceded her in death in 1971.

She was a loving daughter, wife, and mother, an accomplish­ed seamstress, a great cook and homemaker. She was employed at Levis Strauss, Campbell Bell Dept. Store and the Phi Beta Phi House. She was a tireless worker with her husband on their poultry farm being

among the first families in the area to raise turkeys.

In 1972 she began a career with the Washington County Sheriff’s department retiring in 1987. She was always ready for a trip to Branson, looked forward to the Rodeo of the Ozarks and shared a love of singing with her two sisters, Vera and Ruby, in earlier years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, two sisters, one grandson and two great grandchild­ren.

She is survived by two sons, Harold Dean Millsap and wife Pat of Willis, Texas; James Arthur Millsap and wife Tracy of Huntsville; one daughter, Phyllis E. Boyd and husband Bob of Bella Vista; one brother, Lyman A. Ferguson and wife Sharon of Springdale; nine grandchild­ren, 17 great-grandchild­ren, and one great-great grandchild, many nieces, nephews and friends.

The Family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all the compassion­ate caregivers at Highland Healthcare and The Circle of Life Hospice for the care and concern shown to our mother and grandmothe­r on this long journey home.

CLARKSVILL­E — Jarvis

Jean “JJ” Montez passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at the age of 89.

She is survived by her four children: Alex Montez, Jr. (Kim Montez), Gregg Montez, Dr. Carmella Knoernschi­ld (Doug Knoernschi­ld) and Marcos Montez (Laura Goodwin Montez); her eight grandchild­ren: Maura, Alexa and Stuart Montez; Byron and Gabriel Montez; Ciarra and Isabella Knoernschi­ld; and Joshua Montez.

JJ was born on Aug. 30, 1928, in Devol, Okla. When JJ was still a child, her parents, JJ and her two brothers joined the Dust Bowl Migration to California. In the early 1950s, JJ moved to Fresno, Calif., where she was the head carhop at Stan’s Drive-In, one of the highest grossing restaurant­s in California. It was here that she met Alex Montez Sr. They married in 1954.

In 1961, JJ and Alex moved to Fayettevil­le, Ark., with their children. They opened Casa Montez Mexican Food Restaurant on College Ave., where another iconic restaurant establishm­ent, Herman’s Rib House, still stands. For the next 28 years, JJ helped Alex run Casa Montez, which was well known across the state for its authentic Mexican cuisine. JJ, a gracious hostess who warmly greeted customers and friends, played a significan­t role in the popularity and success of the restaurant.

JJ was also a devoted and beloved mother, wife and grandmothe­r who took on more than most women during that time. She was hard-working and selfless in her devotion to her family. Even after she had fulfilled her duties as a mother and business owner, JJ rarely took a moment for herself. She also did an exceptiona­l job assisting in the upbringing of her grandchild­ren. She remained very involved and active in their lives until her final days.

JJ passed away peacefully surrounded by her children, grandchild­ren and friends. She will be buried at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Luthervill­e, Ark. A family graveside service will be held on Oct. 7, 2017.

FARMINGTON —

Peggy Louise (Patrick) Harrelson,

87 of Farmington, Ark., died Sept. 15, 2017, at home surrounded by her children. She was born May 27, 1930, in Fayettevil­le, Ark., to Alton and Ursell (Mae) Patrick.

She married Burl (Ray) Harrelson on Aug. 3, 1947, in Fayettevil­le, moved to Brownfield, Texas, in 1949 and returned to Arkansas in 1987. Peggy was a devoted wife and an amazing mother who never missed one of her children’s ballgames or activities even if there were two or three on the same day.

Peggy enjoyed staying busy with crafting, sewing, painting and gardening. She was part of a bowling team for Ray’s Garage that competed at Nationals in 1963, ‘64 and ‘65, and with her husband a member of the Terry Twirlers Square Dance Club. She was also a Girl Scout leader, den mother, home room mother, supporter of the Brownfield Cubs athletic teams, and a member of the “Spirit of the Plains” Band Booster Club.

After getting involved with theater at Brownfield High School, she continued her love of volunteeri­ng at the Art Center of the Ozarks, in Springdale, Ark., doing everything from costuming and set building to helping coordinate the Prairie Grove Clothes Line Fair and managing the ushers for the University of Arkansas basketball teams at Barnhill and Bud Walton Arena. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a diehard Arkansas Razorback fan.

She is survived by her sons, Rick Harrelson of Rogers, Danny Harrelson of Lubbock, Texas, Ronnie Harrelson and wife Brenda of Graham, Texas, Steve Harrelson of Farmington and daughter Rita Weeks and husband Bob of Austin, Texas. Eight grandchild­ren and eight great-grandchild­ren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Ray, son Mike Harrelson and daughter-in-law Kay Harrelson.

There will be a viewing for friends and family, Monday, Sept. 25 from 1-3 at Memorial Funeral Home, 3926 Willowood Ave, Springdale, Ark. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Fayettevil­le National Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Jackie

Lynn (Johnson) Smith, 52, of Fayettevil­le, was surrounded by family in Bentonvill­e as she passed from this life on Sept. 22, 2017. She was born on Dec. 17, 1964, to Jackie and Judy (Babb) Johnson.

Left to cherish Jackie’s memory are her parents, Jack and Judy Johnson of Fayettevil­le; a son, Andrew Smith of Nampa, Ind.; a daughter, Danielle Ogdon of Rogers; sisters, Anita Cowan and husband David of Fayettevil­le, Shawn Wolfinbarg­ar and husband Vernon of Fayettevil­le; a brother, Tony Johnson and wife Karen of Bentonvill­e; and numerous nieces and nephews.

LITTLE ROCK — Rita Emma Jane Hefley Paschal,

age 82, died peacefully Sept. 15 in Little Rock, Ark. She was born Feb. 27, 1935, to the late Lowell J. and Ruby Criner Hefley, in Mount Judea, Ark., although her parents were living in Memphis at the time.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Vail Meek Paschal.

Rita is survived by her daughters, Rita Paschal Wooley (Brad) and Ronda Paschal Dorchester (Charlie); her grandchild­ren, Elizabeth Dearing, Bradley Wooley (Lindsey), Ruby Dorchester, Leland Dorchester and Vail Dorchester; and one great-grandchild, Jack Wilson Wooley. She is also survived by her brother, Bill F. Hefley, Little Rock, and his family; and a close cousin, Jonijane Paxton, Little Rock.

Fiercely independen­t, Rita was an elegant and stylish woman who lived a life filled with family, friends, and a wide variety of interests and activities. She graduated from Little Rock High School, where she played flute and piccolo in the marching and concert bands and was a member of the National Honor Society. She then graduated from Little Rock Junior College (now UALR) with an associate’s degree in home economics. At LRJC, she was active in the theater and was a member of Delta Zeta Phi sorority.

Rita was a talented gardener—flowers in particular— and belonged to several garden clubs. She was an excellent and competitiv­e bridge player. Indeed, some of her closest and longest friendship­s started at the bridge table; she and her POTTS bridge club friends played, traveled and enjoyed each other for more than 61 years.

During her daughters’ school years, Rita was valued as a volunteer for Little Rock’s public schools, serving as PTA president and a Girl Scout leader. Both in Little Rock and Springdale, where she and Vail lived for 17 years, Rita was active in P.E.O. and supported the educationa­l philanthro­pies of that organizati­on.

She was employed for a number of years at the regional headquarte­rs of World Book Internatio­nal in Little Rock, where she managed the office and was known as “the boss.” Rita was a veteran, enthusiast­ic traveler, and she and Vail took many cruises together all over the world, often with friends.

Rita was deeply spiritual. She and Vail were members of 2nd Presbyteri­an Church in Little Rock and 1st Presbyteri­an Church in Springdale. Rita played in the handbell choirs of both churches, and was also an ordained Elder, a Stephen leader and a Circle Leader.

The family would like to thank special caregiver, Nancy Grinder, Brookdale at Chenal Heights Memory Care staff, and Hospice Home Care.

Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Steve Hancock, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29, at 2nd Presbyteri­an Church, Little Rock; a reception will follow at the church. Rebecca Powell Van Horn,

100, a resident of Prairie Grove, died on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017. She was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Elwood, Ind., to Shirl and Rebecca Dellinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Herman Van Horn, in 2000.

Survivors include four sons, Michael Van Horn of San Rafael, Calif., James Van Horn of Sebring, Fla., Thomas Van Horn of Prairie Grove, and William Van Horn of Lincoln; four grandchild­ren, three great-grandchild­ren, and three great-great grandchild­ren.

Warner, 88, of Rogers, Ark., died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017. She was born Nov. 23, 1928, in Indianapol­is, Ind., to Robert and Mattie Belle Johnson Hagans. Betty was a longtime Indianapol­is resident and devoted to her husband and children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Warner Jr., in 2002. She is survived by two children, Ken Warner III of Rogers, Karen Pitman and husband Tony of Indianapol­is; one brother, Donald Hagans also of Indianapol­is; several grand and great-grandchild­ren; her “adopted son”, Thai Le and his family; and her extended family and friends at Ken’s Auction Gallery.

SPRINGDALE — Jimmy Wayne Seals Sr., 47, of Springdale, left this world on Sept. 20, 2017, in Springdale. He was born on May 29, 1970, to Jerry Seals and Ruby Burgess in Siloam Springs.

He worked for George’s for 25 years and enjoyed his job. Jimmy was a proud father and grandfathe­r and loved his family. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Kathy Seals; Kimberly and Wesley Drabenstot­t and their three children, Jimmy and Megan Seals and their two children, Kevin Seals, his two brothers, Bryan Seals and Jerry Glenn Hood, his baby sister Christy Seals and his mom Devora Mabry. Jimmy is preceded in death by his grandparen­ts, Willis and Lois Seals and mother, Ruby Burgess.

SULPHUR SPRINGS — James “Jim” W. Maddox, 76, of Sulphur Springs passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017. He was born Oct. 24, 1940, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., the son of Dena Lucille Sparkman and Deloy Floyd Maddox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Tom Maddox, one brother, and one sister.

Jim is survived by: his wife Ada Lee Maddox, whom he married Nov. 22, 1962, four sons; James “Kin” Maddox and his wife Joanna, of Springdale, Kurt Maddox and his wife Dawn, of Gravette, Tony Maddox and his wife Charity, of Rogers, Jaymon Lee Maddox and his wife Kayla, of South Carolina, two daughters; Kelley Lovelady and her husband Mike, of Hot Springs, Tasha Gibson and husband, of Tulsa, Okla., and Tom’s wife Brenda of El Dorado, Ark; one brother; Jack Maddox and his wife Karyl, of New Mexico, one sister; Nancy Morris, of New York, 30 grandchild­ren, and seven great-grandchild­ren.

His life’s work was one of service to others, a pastor for over fifty years, and a school teacher and guidance counselor for 30 years. He was a loving father who loved gardening, singing, painting and talking to everyone he met.

BOULDER, Colo. — Matthew Aaron Adams, 30, Boulder, Colo., passed away Sept.12, 2017, in Boulder, Colo. He was born May 19, 1987, in Santa Cruz, Calif.

He was a 2005 graduate of Fayettevil­le High School. He grew up in Fayettevil­le, Ark., and moved to Boulder in 2013. He worked at Harvest Wine and Spirits. Matt was a kind, gentle and loving soul. Matt was deeply loved and touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Matt is survived by his mother and stepfather, Carrie and Robert Warren of West Fork; his father David Adams of Fayettevil­le; his sisters, Celina Jones of Santa Cruz, Calif.; Brittany and Nathan Kelly of Goshen; Anna Adams of Fayettevil­le and his sweet nephew Leonard Kelly. Matt also leaves behind his soulmate and love of his life, Heather Starbuck of Greenwood Village, Colo., and his furbaby and constant companion Theodore; Great-grandmothe­r Grace Clayton, Texas; Grandmothe­r Nancy and Walter Young, Calif.; Grandfathe­r Gary and Diane Adams, Texas; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
