CALS Banned Books Week and fall film series this week
Central Arkansas Library System is offering more than 20 programs at several locations during Banned Books Week 2017, today-Saturday, including “Edible Books” and writing contests, a cooking workshop with Rosalia Monroe of Cafe Bossa Nova, a romance/erotica writing workshop, a trivia contest, a First Amendment discussion, two play discussions, multiple films, Banned Books displays in six library system locations (Ron Robinson Theater and the Main, Maumelle, Milam, Rooker, and Thompson libraries) and a chocolate tasting.
There will be screenings of films connected to books that have at one time or another been banned or challenged, including Like Water for Chocolate, James and the Giant Peach, To Kill a Mockingbird, Alice in Wonderland, Goosebumps and two Harry Potter films.

Meanwhile, CALS is opening its new “Boos and Booze” fall film series with a screening of the 20th anniversary edition of I Know What You Did Last Summer (also marking the 20th anniversary of the Main Library campus), 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock. KISS at AMP

Bluegrass Monday
Bluegrass band The Farm Hands — Tim Graves, dobro and vocals; Daryl Mosley, bass and vocals; Keith Tew, guitar; and Don Hill, banjo — will perform at 7 p.m. Monday at the Collins Theatre, 120 W. Emerson St., Paragould, part of Jonesboro public radio station KASU-FM, 91.9’s Bluegrass Monday concert series. Wildwood/Praeclara
Wildwood Park for the Arts and Praeclara, a performing arts organization based at Little Rock’s Second Presbyterian Church that blends elements of choral and instrumental music, opera, ballet and theatrical performance, are collaborating on two 2017-18 productions at the Lucy Lockett Cabe Festival Theatre at Wildwood, Wildwood Park for the Arts, 20919 Denny Road, Little Rock:
■ Annie (music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, book by Thomas Meehan), 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2728, 3 p.m. Oct. 29 (plus a 10 a.m. Oct. 26 student matinee) ■ Into the Woods (music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book is by James Lapine), 7:30 p.m. April 13, 3 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday April 14 (plus a 10 a.m. April 12 student matinee).

FilmFest submissions
Nov. 30 is the deadline to submit entries for the annual Ozark Foothills FilmFest, April 19-21 and 27-28 in Batesville, with special consideration for films that reflect rural concerns, lifestyles and sensibilities. Turn in entries digitally online via the FilmFreeway website (filmfreeway.com/festival/ OzarkFoothillsFilmFest). The festival will notify successful entrants on or before Jan. 15. All revenue generated from entry fees goes to competition prizes (for Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Narrative Short and Best Documentary Short) and to providing lodging and travel support for visiting filmmakers.
