HOT SPRINGS — The mother of a 16-month-old alleged murder victim was warned of possible child abuse at least six weeks before the infants death, she testified Monday. “She asked, ‘Who’s beating this baby?’” mother Mary Ellen Robbins testified, quoting Dr. Rheeta Stecker of Hot Springs. Stecker reportedly asked the question July 29 while treating infant Laura A. Fullbright for facial swelling and bruises. Stecker had treated Laura for a broken arm June 10. Asked what her reply was, Robbins said: “Nobody. I left with the impression that she (Stecker) was going to report it just as a precaution.”

■ Two people are recovering from injuries after separate accidental shootings Thursday evening, according to Little Rock police. The two calls were about three hours apart. One involved a boyfriend and girlfriend, and the other involved an individual, police said. Accidental shootings are uncommon — there are usually only “one or two a year,” said Lt. Terry Hastings, police spokesman. “Very rarely do we have accidental shootings,” he said. “Having two in one night is very odd.” Police said 22-year-old Bryan McDaniel was playing with a .38-caliber “snub-nosed” revolver when he accidentally fired the gun, striking his girlfriend, Jennifer Leboeuf, 28, in the chest.
