Personal space

- — Laurie Marshall

Where I live: Allencroft neighborhood in Bentonville

Occupation: Retail finance, triathlete and runner on the side.

My favorite space is: My bonus room-turned-workout room

Why? Having a dedicated workout space 10 feet away makes it easy to make time for myself, especially in the winter. When I bought my house, I knew immediately that this bonus room would become my workout room. Originally, I only planned to have a space for my bicycle and indoor trainer, but that expanded to include a treadmill and small media center to keep me entertained during workouts. I love finding a binge-worthy television series to carry me through my winter cycling workouts.

I also love memories that surround me in this room. My decor includes motivational artwork as well as my race photos from age 4 and up. I have a small section dedicated to my Rim to Rim run across the Grand Canyon, a hand-painted piece of triathlon artwork by my nephew, and a few race awards that I have won over the years.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: I have one wall in this room I want to do in a reclaimed wood treatment but I haven’t found the time or supplies to make that happen. My vision is to include various hooks on the wall for finishers medals since I’m running out of room for those on the existing medal holders that I have.
