It’s content, not style

Less than eloquent? Less than flowing and articulate? This isn’t the problem with our current president’s speech, Mike Masterson. You suggest in your column of Oct. 31 that Mr. Trump isn’t all that unusual, considering previous chief executives like LBJ and George Bush 43. Johnson’s speech was sometimes “cringeworthy” and Bush’s made him sound “dense,” you say, so we shouldn’t be all that upset about Trump’s manner of speaking.

It isn’t his manner of speaking that bothers me, sir. It’s the egregious nature of his ideas.

There’s his attitude about the press: “Any negative polls are fake news.” His name-calling, personal attacks: “If I were running The View, I’d fire Rosie O’Donnell. I mean, I’d look at her right in that fat, ugly face of hers, I’d say: ‘Rosie, you’re fired.’” His misogyny: “You can do anything. … Grab them by the p **** .” His lack of humility: “My IQ is one of the highest—and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.” His astounding foolishness: “I know more about ISIS than the generals do. Believe me.” His promotion of violence: “So if you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the c*** out of them, would you? Seriously. Just knock the hell—I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees. I promise. I promise.” I could go on, but you get the idea.

No, Mike. It’s not the style of Mr. Trump’s speech that bothers me; it’s the content.
