Springdale planners approve office building

- STAFF REPORT

SPRINGDALE — Rezoning and preliminary approval for a five-story office building enclosing 75,000 square feet of floor space received the Planning Commission’s approval Tuesday night.

Developer C.L. George and Sons Limited Partnership plan to construct the building, called the 56th Street Office Building in planning documents, on nine acres across the street from the new Arkansas Children’s Northwest under construction.

The office building’s appearance and architecture is consistent with the new hospital, according to plans presented at the meeting by McClelland Construction Engineers.

No objections to the office project were raised at Tuesday’s meeting. The commission met beginning at 5 p.m. at Springdale City Hall. The commission approved both a rezoning of the site from agricultural to commercial use and approved the plat of the project.

Arkansas Children’s Northwest hospital is set to open next year on its 37-acre site near Arvest Ballpark.

In other business, the commission approved an expansion to add three hangars at the Springdale Municipal Airport at 1617 Powell St., all on city property. The commission also approved plans for a new car wash at 4315 Elm Springs Road, to be run by the Speedy Splash Car Wash company. There were no objections to either of those projects.
