On looking for positives after Arkansas 39-38 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday …

Kfoo: Did anything positive come out of this game?

Colorado Hog: The only thing I can see is despite a nonexistent defense, a very bad punt and a fumble score, Cole Kelley led the team to two pressure touchdowns in the fourth quarter. That has to be a positive. The kid is a winner. I saw nothing else.

Army Hog: T.J. Hammonds had a great game. Or did you not remember that? In the first half our defense had two roughing the passer penalties and that’s what killed us. One with targeting. What is disappointing is we fail to look back for the ball on the outside and there were passes, if we look back, we either intercept or knock down.

Swine Fusion: Five years from now it will just be a win in the record books. Nobody will remember how close we came to losing. And after screwing around for three quarters, the defense made two stops and the offense got the job done. Other than that, not much.

donwells: Uh, that was a win, wasn’t it? Does anything else matter?

scottagee: I am a die-hard optimist, but yes, other things matter.

Jhawg: Don, it’s over. You need to jump off the bandwagon. Remember to tuck and roll when you jump.

Mikenmike8: Not really, honestly. That sucks to say, but I didn’t see anything that I was very impressed with. I take that back. The baton twirler is fantastic, and always is. Love watching her at halftime. She was the positive of (game). She has better hands that most of our wide receivers.

jh979: T.J. Hammonds’ development. Jeremy Patton’s emergence. Cole Kelley has now led two fourth-quarter rallies for wins as a freshman. Threw the ball downfield much better. Screen game has begun to look like ’Bama in that you know it’s coming but it still works. Defense-wise, the emergence of Briston Guidry was good to see. Thought roughing the passer and hands to the face calls were critical. Coastal would have had three points instead of 14 on those first two drives.

Hogmaestro: Here’s your positive — we won. Playing badly and winning is far better in sports than playing badly and losing. It’s just the way it is when there are only two possibilities. The Hogs have played well and lost plenty of times in the past decade. I prefer to play bad and win, if you have to choose. For the team it’s another game when the chips were down and they proved to themselves they have the stuff to win close games. For us fans, we don’t have to listen to the national narrative about a Sun Belt beating a Power 5 team. That narrative sucks. Ask LSU.

Crazorback: Far and away, the best thing was Hammonds. Fans around me in the south outdoor club were yelling for coaches to play him after the first series. It’s just unreal that the guy is electric and he gets two to three touches the past couple of games until today.

On the defensive performance Saturday …

Woopigs: The crazy thing is, our offense played well. That defense, though. Geez. How is our d-line this bad?

Swine Fustion: McTelvin Agim missed the first quarter against Ole Miss and they torched us. He missed the last three quarters (against Coastal Carolina). And they torched us. I don’t think those are coincidences.

Jhawg: Coastal played most of the game without its first-team quarterback. Let that sink in for a minute.

Score predictions for Saturday’s game at LSU …. Mikenmike8: Tigers 45, Hogs 17. JacksonReid: LSU 38, Arkansas

16. eaglehog5: LSU 35, Hogs 14. Georgia Hawg: Last year we were an up-down team with one week playing well and one week playing poorly. This year we seem to be a down-down team. LSU 48, Arkansas 24.

WizardofhOgZ: LSU 38, Hogs

17. Tigers turn the tables and use CBB’s own formula to play keepaway and slowly squeeze the life out of the Hogs with a ball-control offense. Arkansas will be able to move the ball some on LSU, but the offense won’t have enough opportunities because LSU will run the ball down the Hogs’ throats.

Razorwill: About the same as last year, LSU 38, Arkansas 13.

StillGregHog: LSU 51, Hogs 7. Ugly from the start. Never a game.

Hawginator: I look for LSU to rack up 250-plus yards on the ground. Most of if on the dreaded jet sweep. That seems to be LSU’s favorite play and our defense’s biggest weakness. If a hobbled Cole Kelley starts, I think we have trouble sustaining offensive momentum. If Austin Allen starts, I thing we’ll have some success moving the ball. Although, ultimately, I don’t believe it would make a difference if Dak Prescott were starting at QB for us Saturday. LSU 44, Arkansas 14.

lilhawg: I agree this one gets ugly early and we’re on our heels fast. LSU beats the spread, 38-13.

bakedhog19741: Close loss or a close win. Would a close loss be enough to cool off Bret’s seat a little, or would another close win? HoginBA: Tigers 52, Hogs 13. brianatkinson: Tigers 45, Hogs 17. hogsr2cool: I would like to think that LSU can’t get up for this game and comes out flat, and they may. Even so, I don’t think we have the ability to take advantage if that happens … I always want to win this game above any other SEC game, but I don’t see how that happens. If it did, it would be more of a miracle than the Miracle on Markham, but

then we were a much better team …

Hog-N-Das: Tiguhs 37, Hogs 3. LDHog: I’ll abstain from a prediction since I’ve always predicted a Hog win. And my gut tells me that won’t happen.

white25: LSU 12, Arkansas 6. Hangover in Baton Rouge.

WizardofhOgZ: Yours is the most stunning prediction of all to date, because regardless of what Arkansas scores, it will be nothing short of amazing if the Arkansas defense can hold ANYONE to less than 20 points, under any circumstances. I could literally say the same thing about 30 points. JJHog18: LSU 55, Arkansas 17. TVGHog: Repeat of 2013 game, CBB’s first season. Only the Hogs finish the game. 2013 vs. LSU, Hogs 3-8, LSU 8-3 ranked 15th after beating No. 9 A&M the week before. Hogs had a 27-21 lead with five minutes to go. LSU kicks a field goal with 4:56. LSU with little used freshman quarterback, goes 99 yards for winning TD with 1:15 left. I’m predicting our best effort of the year. Hogs 27, LSU 24.

Jhawg: I have a feeling we will put up a fight. LSU 41, Hogs 27.

daBoar: I do not predict scores when I think the Hogs will lose and I do think they’ll come up way short. In fact, I see no way the Hogs can win. LSU’s defense is too good, while our defense is too bad.

Ricemab54: LSU 49, Arkansas 10. The game is a real nail-biter until kickoff. LSU scores on its first four possessions. Arkansas allows six first half sacks … Arkansas gets 10 points in garbage time. In the postgame presser, CBB says we’re getting close.

Far and away, the best thing [against Coastal Carolina] was Hammonds. Fans around me in the south outdoor club were yelling for coaches to play him after the first series. It’s just unreal that the guy is electric and he gets two to three touches the past couple of games until today.
