Cosper, Monk take turns for UA women

The University of Arkansas, Fayettevil­le women’s team used the one-two scoring punch of Malica Monk and Devin Cosper to knock off Oral Roberts 77-66 on Monday night at the Mabee Center in Tulsa.

Monk led all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting, and Cosper scored 21 points on 8-of-19 shooting as the Razorbacks pulled away in the second half. Arkansas (3-1) turned the ball over only four times while forcing Oral Roberts (1-3) into 14 turnovers.

Cosper dominated the first half as Arkansas took a 40-36 lead into the locker room. She scored 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 3 of 3 three-pointers. The rest of the Razorbacks scored 21 points on 9-of-28 shooting.

When Cosper cooled down in the second half (1 of 10), Monk picked up the slack with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Up 40-38, Monk’s jumper sparked an 8-1 Arkansas run

that put it ahead 48-39 with 5:40 remaining in the third quarter.

Oral Roberts cut the lead to 50-49 on Maya Mayberry’s three-pointer with 2:01 left in the quarter, but the Razorbacks responded with three-pointers by Jailyn Mason and Keiryn Swenson in the final 42 seconds for a 5649 advantage.

Monk scored the first two baskets of the fourth quarter, and Oral Roberts could get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Monk added four assists and Cosper grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Razorbacks in those categories. Faith Ihim led Oral Roberts with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

SOUTHLAND WOMEN CENTRAL ARKANSAS 75, ALCORN STATE 52

Taylor Baudoin and Kierra Jordan both scored 20 points as the University of Central Arkansas rolled past Alcorn State at the Farris Center.

Jordan added 12 rebounds and Baudoin chipped in 7 rebounds and 3 assists for the Sugar Bears (2-1). Kamry Orr’s 14 points and Angel Williams’ 10 gave UCA four players in double figures.

Alcorn State (3-1) scored the first four points in the game, but the Sugar Bears closed the first quarter on a 17-4 run capped by Williams’ pair of free throws.

An 11-2 run midway through the second quarter put the game out of reach. Baudoin’s jumper with 2:55 left in the half closed the surge and put UCA up 39-22. The Sugar Bears led by as many as 25 in the second half.

SUN BELT MEN ARKANSAS STATE 92, HOWARD 78

Arkansas State University wasted little time in the second half breaking open a close game to defeat winless Howard (0-5) at First National Bank Arena.

The Red Wolves (2-2) trailed 39-36 on Kai Tease’s three-pointer with 4:05 left in the first half, but a 10-3 surge put ASU up 46-42 at halftime.

The run continued in the final 20 minutes as Rashad Lindsey capped a 20-8 opening stretch with a three-pointer for a 66-50 lead with 14:03 remaining.

Howard pulled within 76-72 on RJ Cole’s jumper, but the Red Wolves reeled off the next seven points and never were threatened again.

Ty Cockfield led ASU with 25 points, Lindsey scored 17 and Tamas Bruce put up 14. Tristin Walley grabbed a gamehigh 11 rebounds.
