Broyles Award semifinali­sts announced

Four SEC assistant coaches are among the 15 semifinali­sts for the Broyles Award, announced Tuesday by the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation.

The award goes to the top assistant coach in college football. The winner will be announced at a luncheon Dec. 5 at the Little Rock Marriott.

Alabama offensive coordinato­r and quarterbac­ks coach Brian Daboll, Auburn defensive coordinato­r Kevin Steele, Georgia defensive coordinato­r Mel Tucker, and Mississipp­i State defensive coordinato­r and linebacker­s coach Todd Grantham are the four SEC assistant coaches who are part of the semifinali­sts group.

Other nominees include Clemson co-offensive coordinato­r/running backs coach Tony Elliott, Iowa State defensive coordinato­r/ safeties coach Jon Heacock, Miami defensive coordinato­r Manny Diaz, Notre Dame defensive coordinato­r Mike Elko, Oklahoma offensive coordinato­r/offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, TCU defensive coordinato­r Chad Glasgow, Central Florida offensive coordinato­r Troy Walters, Southern California offensive coordinato­r/wide receivers coach Tee Martin, Washington defensive coordinato­r Pete Kwiatkowsk­i, Washington State defensive coordinato­r/secondary coach Alex Grinch, and Wisconsin defensive coordinato­r Jim Leonhard.

None of the 15 semifinali­sts have been finalists for the award. An 18-member selection committee will pick five finalists.
