- — Henry Apple • @ NWAHenry

SCHOOL: Bentonville High CLASS: Senior HEIGHT: 6-1 WEIGHT: 170 POSITION: Wide receiver/ defensive back

THE SCOOP: An all-state selection, Mays-Hunt finished the season with 75 receptions for 1,179 yards and 13 touchdowns. … He became the Tigers’ all-time leading receiver after a 10-catch performance in the season opener against Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst and finished his career with 205 catches. … Had a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Bentonville West. … During his worst offensive performance of the season against Springdale Har-Ber, Mays-Hunt shined on defense with an interception and a crucial fumble recovery that helped seal Bentonville’s 24-21 victory. … The last time he touched the ball during a game was when he recovered the onside kick in the final seconds of the Class 7A state championship.

DID YOU KNOW?: Mays-Hunt has already signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Arkansas, but he has not ruled college football completely out of the picture. He said he has already been contacted by the Razorbacks shortly after Chad Morris was named Arkansas’ new coach.

HE SAID IT: “I think the season went pretty good. I wanted to get to state, and we did that. We didn’t win it, but we got there and that was my main goal. It was my teammates that kept faith in me, even though when we were losing. No of us ever doubted us.

“The onside kick against North Little Rock when we were down in the state championship game had to be my biggest moment. I was just telling coach that I wanted the ball and to kick me the ball, and somehow I got it.”
