■ Christina Hartman, 51, said she found Zoey, an 8-pound bichon frise dog that had been carried off by an eagle from a yard in Bowmanstow­n, Pa., 4 miles away, when she pulled over after spotting a furry white lump on a snow-covered back road and then used social media to find the dog’s owner.

■ Dustin Pederson, 36, is accused of robbing a bank branch in Trenton, Ohio, of $8,800 and then less than an hour later using $4,500 of the money to buy an engagement ring for his fiancee, a police detective said.

■ Juan Jose Carabello, 70, grabbed his gun when he heard someone breaking into his home near Orlando, Fla., and shot and killed an intruder, a confrontat­ion that also left Carabello injured by a bullet and requiring surgery, Orange County sheriff’s deputies said.

■ Rusty Lowe, a fire captain in Hoover, Ala., said it took firefighte­rs about 20 minutes to rappel off a bridge to rescue an injured man who was trapped when his pickup fell about 100 feet off an interstate and landed upside down in a creek.

■ Miranda Maloney, 33, suspected of being a robber nicknamed the “Grimace Bandit” for wearing a purple shirt and a purple scarf during some of seven Arizona bank heists over a span of three months, was arrested by federal agents and police in Gulfport, Miss.

■ Laila Amer, a young singer, is the second female performer in a month to be charged in Egypt with violating public decency and inciting debauchery over a music video that reportedly shows her belly dancing and making provocativ­e gestures.

■ Malachi Love-Robinson, 20, accused of illegally operating a medical practice as a 19-year-old, pleaded guilty to grand theft, practicing medicine without a license and other charges, and was sentenced in Palm Beach County, Fla., to 3½ years in prison.

■ William Dombrow, a monsignor who is rector of a retirement home for Roman Catholic priests in Philadelph­ia, was sentenced to eight months in federal prison after pleading guilty to embezzling $500,000 and spending the money on casino visits, expensive dinners and concerts.

■ Grady Judd, the sheriff of Polk County, Fla., called it “a tragedy no parent or family should ever have to go through” after an 11-year-girl wearing headphones and concentrat­ing on her phone was struck and killed by an Amtrak train as she crossed some railroad tracks.
