I take issue with that
I think that it would be an understatement to say that John Brummett is a good writer when in fact he is an exceptional, great writer and I read him a lot, but I take issue with his column titled “A reason to hope.”
I think that it is insane to think that our hope lies with the Democratic
Party, as I understand insanity (when you keep doing the same thing, but expecting different results).
A few years back Arkansas was a Blue (Democratic) state except for the late John Paul Hammerschmidt who served (us) Arkansas in the 3rd Congressional District for over 25 years. To place our hope in a 1 ½-term Democrat defiles the meaning of hope, which means when used as a noun, “a feeling of expectation and a desire for a certain thing to happen.”
To have a Democratic majority after the midterm election would mean that we expect something to be different, when actually what we really would have is six years of scalawag government. What I mean is that Republicans controlled both houses in President Barack Obama’s last two years in office and nothing got done, and nothing has gotten done this far into President Trump’s first term. A Democratic majority would mean President Trump becomes a “lame duck” and nothing gets done, and six years will be lost. I guess history will label them as the “Lost Years.”
When I was inducted into the armed forces (United States Air Force) I took a step forward, and hope is a feeling of expectation and a desire for a certain thing to happen. I cannot expect changes going forward and having a reason to hope if I take a step backward.
