■ Kate Brogan, a National Marine Fisheries Service official, said a beluga whale rescued near Alaska’s Cook Inlet in September will soon call SeaWorld San Antonio home because the whale, named Tyonek, lacks the survival and socialization skills necessary for life in the wild.

■ Cory Mendenhall, a petty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, said all passengers who were aboard a stuck ferry arrived safely on land after the agency received a call that the water taxi carrying more than 40 people had run aground about a mile off California’s Berkeley Marina.

■ Reynaldo Bonilla, 40, was arrested after police searching for drugs at a Long Island, N.Y., home discovered more than 60 caged roosters, a mistreated pit bull, a pheasant and equipment used to stage illegal cockfighting matches, authorities said.

■ Dean Dohrman, a Republican state representative in Missouri, introduced a bill that would allow universities to designate fulltime faculty members as campus protection officers who can carry concealed weapons, saying the legislation would improve campus safety in active-shooter situations.

■ Arnold Perry, 34, was sentenced to 27 years in prison for rape and sexual battery after impregnating 14-year-old twins and their 12-year-old sister after their mother allowed him to move into their home when he had nowhere to live.

■ Lawrence Bacow, 66, who is the son of immigrants, was named Harvard University’s 29th president and said he plans to use his new post to protect students who were brought to the U.S. as children and are now living here illegally.

■ Rick Staly, a Florida sheriff, has dubbed the Flagler County jail the “Green Roof Inn” because it has a retro-neon sign featuring a blinking “vacancy” light, which was purchased with drug-seizure assets, and a second sign at the exit letting inmates know that beds are available if they break the law again.

■ Daniel Derringer III, 29, was sentenced in New Jersey to 12 years in prison after he posed online as a young girl to trick teen girls into exposing themselves on their Web cameras, then threatened to post images of the girls if they didn’t continue to engage in sexual conduct.

■ Rob Pedregon, an officer at Los Angeles International Airport, said authorities are investigating how a man made it onto the runway, then sprinted toward a plane before being arrested.
