Overnight Interstate 49 lane closures set

-

LOWELL — Crews building the U.S. 412 Northern Bypass will require lane closures on Interstate 49, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation officials.

Weather permitting, lanes will be closed overnight between Wagon Wheel Road, Exit 76, in Springdale and Arkansas 264, Exit 78, in Lowell. The closures will occur 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through March 2.

The outside lanes of northbound and southbound I-49 alternately will be closed to allow the contractor to lay asphalt pavement along the shoulder of the interstate.

The project is part of the department’s Connecting Arkansas Program. The contractor is constructing about four miles of the four-lane bypass from I-49 to Arkansas 112. The project is expected to be completed this summer. More information on the project is available at Connecting ArkansasProgram.com.

Also, maintenance work on I-49 bridges and overpasses in Johnson and Springdale requires nighttime lane closures. Beginning Wednesday night through Saturday morning, crews will work at Clear Creek bridge and Johnson Mill Boulevard in Johnson and U.S. 412 in Springdale. The northbound lanes will be closed first, and once the work is complete, crews will close the southbound lanes. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels. Northbound lanes will be closed between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and southbound lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
