Nationals get ex-Hog

The Washington Nationals have acquired utility player Matt Reynolds (Arkansas Razorbacks) from the New York Mets in exchange for cash. The Nationals announced the move Monday night. The 27-year-old Reynolds made his major league debut with the Mets in 2016. He hit .230 with 1 home run and 5 RBI in 68 games last season. Reynolds can play all four infield positions and both corner outfield spots. The Oklahoma native was selected in the second round of the 2012 draft.

Moon, 87, dies

Former National League Rookie of the Year Wally Moon, who played on three World Series-winning teams with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has died. He was 87. Erin Giese, the funeral director at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, Texas, said Monday that Moon died Friday at his home in Bryan. Moon played for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1954-1958 and was named NL Rookie of the Year in 1954, when he batted .304 with 12 home runs and 76 RBI. He played for the Dodgers from 1959-1965 and led the NL with a .434 on-base percentage in 1961. The Dodgers won the World Series in 1959, 1963 and 1965. Moon batted .289 with a .371 on-base percentage, 142 home runs and 661 RBI in 1,457 career regular-season games.

Rangers ink Plouffe

Infielder Trevor Plouffe has agreed to a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers and will report to big league spring training. He would get a $1.75 million, one-year contract if added to the 40man roster under the terms of the deal announced Monday. Plouffe hit .198 with 9 home runs and 19 RBI in 100 games for Oakland and Tampa Bay, which acquired him June 17. The 31-year-old was selected by Minnesota with the 20th overall pick in the 2004 amateur draft and played for the Twins from 20102016. He has a .242 batting average with 105 home runs and 376 RBI in eight major league seasons.

Ex-All-Star arrested

Former All-Star pitcher Esteban Loaiza has been arrested on suspicion of traffickin­g drugs after packages containing a white powder believed to be cocaine were found at a home he rented in Southern California, officials said Monday. The 46-year-old former Major League Baseball player was booked Friday on charges involving the possession, transport and sale of 44 pounds of suspected cocaine worth an estimated $500,000, according to the San Diego sheriff’s office. Loaiza played for numerous teams between 1995 and 2008, starting with the Pittsburgh Pirates and concluding with his second stint with the Chicago White Sox. He had a 21-9 record with the Chicago White Sox in 2003 and started in the All-Star Game that year. Loaiza’s agent, John Boggs, told the San Francisco Chronicle he had no informatio­n about the arrest and that he has not spoken to Loaiza recently.

BASKETBALL 76ers sign Belinelli

The 76ers have signed veteran three-point specialist Marco Belinelli, whose contract was bought out by the Atlanta Hawks. Philadelph­ia announced the move Monday. Belinelli was averaging 11.4 points in 23.3 minutes per game with the Hawks, who bought him out to allow him to join a contending team. The Sixers held the eighth playoff position in the Eastern Conference entering Monday night’s game. An 11year veteran, Belinelli has made 945 three-pointers in his career and has made 37.7 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
