Peace at Home

White Lotus Salon & Massage hosted a reception Feb. 3 to benefit Peace at Home Family Shelter.

All money raised from raffles will go to Peace at Home Family Shelter. Peace at Home provides emergency shelter to women and children who are victims of domestic violence and abuse. Their 24-hour crisis hotline is toll free at (877) 443-9811. They also provide weekly support groups.

Washington County nonprofits

Altrusa International of Fayetteville awards thousands of dollars to Washington County nonprofit organizations. This money comes from fundraising and donations which 100 percent are awarded back to the community.

Grant recipients for 2016-17 included: Botanical Gardens — Little Sprouts and children’s field trip programs, NWA Food Bank, Salvation Army Emergency Medical Fund, American Legion Auxiliary Girls State, Yvonne Richardson Center — cultural experience and full STEM ahead program, Fayetteville Adult Education and UA International Cultural Team Community Outreach Program, in-house Altrusa program — Mozart: Music and Literacy for schools, and Children’s Library — Trade-a-Book and books/supplies for local charitable libraries.

UA Fort Smith

A donation has been made to the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith to help working students.

The $100,000 planned gift to UAFS will fund the Sally Baum Frick Working Students Scholarship. Frick made annual gifts to support scholarships and the Season of Entertainment, and to purchase art and musical instruments. She made major gifts to the Charles and Nadine Baum Scholarship Endowment and the Cultural Arts Endowment and to name the student lounge in Windgate Art and Design.

Children’s Northwest

Two local young women, Bethany Miller and Anna Claire Hay, used their pageant titles to raise awareness and funds for Children’s Miracle Network to benefit the newly opened Arkansas Children’s Northwest by hosting a Dance-A-Thon Feb. 24 in Fayetteville and Feb. 25 in Bentonville.

Miss Dogwood’s Outstanding Teen, Hay had a special personal reason for wanting to hold this fundraiser for Arkansas Children’s Northwest. After being named Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen’s Miracle Maker for raising over $4,000 for Children’s Miracle Network, she knew she wanted to try to repeat her successes.

To raise much needed funds for Children’s Miracle Network and Arkansas Children’s, these women will donate all funds from Dance-a-thon to these organizations.
