■ Robert Gentile, 81, a reputed mobster, is believed by federal prosecutors to be the last surviving person of interest in the still-unsolved 1990 heist at Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, in which thieves stole an estimated $500 million worth of artwork, including works by Rembrandt and Johannes Vermeer.
■ Erica Gomez, 17, gave birth at her home in El Paso, Texas, to a baby girl who was found dead about 12 hours later, wrapped in a bathrobe inside a storage shed with stab wounds and cuts to her neck and body, resulting in the mother’s arrest.
■ Jeff Williamson, Orange County, Fla., sheriff’s spokesman, said authorities have detained a 14-year-old boy and started an arson investigation after officers received reports of an explosion coming from the boys’ bathroom at a high school, prompting staff and students to evacuate.
■ Carina Driscoll, a former Vermont state legislator and stepdaughter of Sen. Bernie Sanders, has the backing of the Progressive Party for her grassroots campaign to challenge incumbent Democratic Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger.

■ John Hershel Hagood, 60, is accused in the strangulation death of his girlfriend, Betty Patricia Watkins, 71, after Alabama officers found her dead when they responded to a call from a pizza deliveryman about a disturbance at an apartment building.
■ Levi Dykema, 28, a Vermont firefighter, faces three counts of reckless endangerment after police say he covered the hands of his children, ages 5, 7 and 10, with hand sanitizer and ignited it, telling authorities he was trying to teach them about poor decision-making.
■ Carlos Guimaraes and Jemima Guimaraes were indicted by a federal grand jury in Houston on kidnapping and conspiracy charges after being accused of helping their grandson from Texas illegally remain in Brazil when his mother purportedly violated a custody order in a divorce case.
■ Dustin Lockwood, 23, was taken into custody at Fox High School in Arnold, Mo., and charged with possessing a firearm in a school zone after authorities found numerous weapons in his vehicle when he was picking up his sister.
