BASEBALL UAFS falls in extras to West Texas A&M

West Texas A&M’s Brandon Marrero doubled in Christian Loya for the winning run in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Buffs past the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith 5-4 on Monday in the final game of a three-game series in Fort Smith.

The Lions (7-4) left 14 runners on base, including nine in scoring position.

Logan Allen went 2 for 4 with a double, and Anthony Seminaris went 2 for 4 with an RBI for UAFS. Jace Pitchford and Troy Cahill also drove in runs.

Southern Nazarene topples OBU

Southern Nazarene earned its first series victory against Ouachita Baptist University since joining the Great American Conference in 2013 as the Crimson Storm beat the Tigers 4-2 on Monday in Arkadelphi­a.

Southern Nazarene improved to 6-7, 2-4 GAC, and Ouachita fell to 4-11, 1-5.

Guest powers Harding in loss

Harding University’s Grant Guest hit his second home run of the season and added a double in the Bisons’ 9-5 loss Monday to Southweste­rn Oklahoma at the SWOSU Athletic Complex in Weatherfor­d, Okla.

Southweste­rn Oklahoma’s win clinched a three-game series sweep, and the Bulldogs improved to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in the GAC. Harding fell to 5-9, 1-5.

SOFTBALL Henson, Coronado key ATU sweep

Sydnie Henson had three hits in the opener, and Sarah Coronado added three hits in the second game as Arkansas Tech University (13-3, 4-0 Great American Conference) rolled to a doublehead­er sweep of Northweste­rn Oklahoma (1-9, 0-4) on Monday, winning 9-2 and 5-1 in Bentonvill­e.

Harding wins three in one day

Harding University finished off Southweste­rn Oklahoma University 11-3 in the completion of a suspended game and then went on to win 6-0 and 3-2 to complete the sweep Monday in Searcy.

The Bisons (9-1, 4-0 GAC) have won eight consecutiv­e games. Southweste­rn Oklahoma remains winless at 0-10 overall and 0-4 in conference.

OBU’s McGhee gets 300th career victory

Ouachita Baptist University Coach Mike McGhee earned his 300th career victory Monday as the Tigers (7-4, 3-1 GAC) split with Southern Nazarene (4-10, 1-3), losing 5-4 before winning 5-3 in Bethany, Okla.

UCA falls to Austin Peay

The University of Central Arkansas Bears closed out the UCA Invitation­al on Monday with a 6-2 loss to Austin Peay in Conway.

Carly Mattson’s three-run home run sparked the victory for the Governors (3-5). The Bears fell to 5-6.

GOLF UCA men tied for eighth in Texas

The University of Central Arkansas men are tied for eighth after two rounds of the Colin Montgomeri­e/HBU Huskies Intercolle­giate at Augusta Pines in Spring, Texas.

UCA shot rounds of 297-287 on Monday for a 584 total and is tied with North Dakota State. Bradley leads the tournament at 566, followed by Abilene Christian (567) and the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley (576).

UCA junior Lewis George is tied for 11th with rounds of 73-69 for a 2-under 144.
