Solution to shootings

-

The answer to all the mass shootings/killings in our schools is not an easy one. I don’t believe more laws restricting gun ownership are the answer; people who would violently use a gun couldn’t care less what is written on a piece of paper, and a piece of paper will not stop even a BB gun, let alone a .223 caliber from an AR-15.

Many people live in gated communities; why not make our school campuses, from elementary through high school, gated campuses? Install a chain-link fence around the entire campus grounds with armed guards at the entrances. No student would be refused leaving the premises, because we aren’t running prisons, we’re protecting young people by providing a safe learning environment. I’m sure there are certified police officers who would be willing to take on a parttime off-duty job at these positions. A fence would keep the perpetrator at a distance so that just firing at will is not as likely to hit multiple victims. Vehicle parking lots for students would be off-campus, and all students would be required to pass through metal detectors before entering the campus. Faculty would have on-campus parking with proper identification.

In this way there are no armed teachers, no guns at all, inside the buildings. It’s not a perfect solution, but I think it would be a beginning to the end of this madness with no assault on anyone’s rights.
