FAYETTEVILLE 2, BENTONVILLE HIGH 0

FAYETTEVILLE —The Davenport cousins took care of Bentonville Tuesday with a big assist from Emory Kincaid.

Luke Davenport pitched into the seventh inning and hit a run-scoring double to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory over the Tigers in 7A-West Conference action at Bulldogs Stadium. Davenport’s cousin, Jacob Davenport, got the final two outs after Bentonville put runners on first and second.

Designated hitter Brooks McDowell lined a pitch toward third base, where Kincaid made the play of the game when he dived to his left and caught the ball for the second out. Jacob Davenport then struck out Payton Allen to end the game.

“With two guys on, that ball could’ve gotten into the corner and scored one or two runs,” Fayetteville coach Scott Gallagher said of Kincaid’s diving catch. “He made a couple of good plays going to his left, and that was a big one. When he makes plays like that, it gives our pitcher a lot of confidence.”

Bentonville (4-2, 1-1) beat Fayetteville 5-4 on Monday with the help of two Fayetteville errors in the seventh inning. Fayetteville won the rematch Tuesday despite being held to one hit.

Fayetteville (5-3-1, 1-1) scored the only runs in the sixth inning after Nathan Lyons held the Bulldogs without a hit through five. Beau Stuckey

drew a leadoff walk from Austin Gotula and scored on a run-scoring double by Luke Davenport into left-center field. Weston Tate followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to give Fayetteville a 2-0 lead.

Luke Davenport (2-0) earned the victory after holding Bentonville to one hit in 6.1 innings. Ryan Kneeshaw hit a single in the second inning but he was thrown out trying to steal second. Sam Golden and Kneeshaw had the other singles for Bentonville in the seventh.

Davenport also threw a shutout during his first win over Fort Smith Northside.
