5-point decline drops state index to 403.78

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, dropped 5.00 to 403.78 Friday.

All but four stocks lost ground Friday. Windstream fell 5.7 percent in light trading.

All 17 stocks fell for the week.

Total volume for the index Friday was 25.2 million shares. The average volume for the week was 23.7 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
