Police arrest man in connection with drugs
FAYETTEVILLE — Police arrested a man Thursday accused of making and selling fake pain pills using fentanyl as the active ingredient.
Lewis Chafin Jr., 27, of Fayetteville was arrested in connection with eight drug-related offenses, including possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, LSD, morphine, oxycodone and others, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held Friday at the Washington County Detention Center with no bond set.
Police had received information alleging Chafer was making fake oxycodone mixed with fentanyl, according to a police report. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid with an intense, heroin-like effect.
Detectives with the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force searched Chafin’s home in the 1100 block of Pepper Tree Lane about 1:45 p.m. Thursday.
Chafin is on probation for previous drug-related offenses, and officers were able to search the residence without a warrant, the report states.
The task force found a pill press and other equipment to make the fake oxycodone, according to the report.
In Chafin’s bedroom, police found several pills, 140 LSD tablets, eight capsules of an unknown substance, a gram of unidentified powder and a jar with powder believed to be fentanyl, according to the arrest report. Officers also seized a digital scale and a ledger with instructions on how to make fake drugs, according to the report.
Chafin has a court appearance set for Monday. He also is being held for a probation violation.
The 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force is made up of several officers from Washington County law enforcement agencies.
