BELLA VISTA — Jerald Eugene Jurgensen passed away April 29, 2018. He was born to Clarence and Geneva Jurgensen in Corwith, Iowa, on Oct. 30, 1935.

Jerald proudly served in the Army for three years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry and Jim. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Van Osten; two sons, Scott and Steven; a sister, Phyllis Graff and grandchild­ren, Ryan and Alissa.

ROGERS — James Allen Gaines, 80, of Rogers, Ark., died May 1, 2018, in Rogers. He was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Hickman, Ark. He served in the U.S. Navy. ROGERS — Genevee Hicks, 94, of Rogers passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Bradford House Nursing and Rehabilita­tion. She was born June 18, 1923, in Springdale to Earl and Edith Maxey Mason.

Genevee was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She loved dogs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Hicks and one sister, Freda Mason. Survivors include one son, James Lewis Hicks of Fayettevil­le; one brother, Derrell Mason and wife Janette of Lowell, one grandchild and two great-grandchild­ren.

ROGERS — Johannes Hendrik William “John” de Boer, 48, of Rogers passed away April 30, 2018, in Rogers. He was born Jan. 9, 1970, in Pomona, Calif., the son of Hendrik Marten de Boer and Michal Sloan de Boer.

He is survived by his mother, Michal de Boer of Bethel Heights; his daughter, Arianna de Boer of Fayettevil­le; his daughter, Hannah Gregory of Bethel Heights; his daughters, Amber and Erica of Louisiana; his sister, Lori Cesenas of Bethel Heights; his brother, Fred de Boer of Oregon, and his niece Rebekah de Boer of Minnesota.

WALNUT RIDGE — Virginia McNabb Bland, 94, died May 1, 2018, at her home in Walnut Ridge . Born June 20, 1923, at Brockett in Randolph County, she was the daughter of Herman and Nell Lehman McNabb.

Virginia grew up in Pocahontas and was a 1941 graduate of Pocahontas High School. She was a freshman at Hendrix College when the bombing occurred at Pearl Harbor.

As many others of her age, she left college to become involved in the U.S. effort during World War II. She took a clerical job at the Walnut Ridge Army Flying School and would later transfer to bases in Florida, living in the Coral Gables and Fort Myers areas. After the war, she returned to college for a brief time at the University of Arkansas, where she pledged Pi Beta Phi.

On June 14, 1949, she married James (Jim) Lloyd Bland Jr. of Walnut Ridge. She then taught school in Pocahontas and later Walnut Ridge for just a few years. In later years, she worked part-time at The Times Dispatch, of which she was an owner. She faithfully gathered local news for the Walnut Ridge section of People & Events for several decades until her death.

She was devoted to her family, friends and church, First United Methodist of Walnut Ridge, where she was a longtime member.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Jim; a son, James Lloyd Bland III; brothers, Clifford McNabb and Gardner McNabb; and a sister, Mary Nell Spikes King. Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Lehman Bland, and husband, Paul Derrig Girolamo, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a son, John Aaron Bland, and wife, Renee Rainwater Bland, of Walnut Ridge; and three grandchild­ren, James Paul Girolamo, John Cullen Girolamo and Anna Elizabeth Bland, as well as 18 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge with a reception afterwards in the fellowship hall. Rev. Beth Perdue will officiate.

Suggested memorials are to Walnut Ridge First United Methodist Church, The Children’s Shelter or the Lawrence County Library. McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas is in charge of arrangemen­ts.

STELLA, Mo. — Mrs. Rita Louise McCarty, 66, of Stella, Mo., departed this life suddenly on Monday, April 30, 2018, in the comfort of her residence.

Rita entered this life on March 27, 1952, in Fayettevil­le, Ark., born to the union of Marvin and Anna (Ridenoure) Skaggs. She was raised and attended school in Springdale, Ark. On July 18, 1967, she was united in marriage to Dwaine Lavon McCarty and together the shared 50 years before his passing on Aug. 23, 2017.

They resided in Cave Springs, Ark., for several years before moving to a farm in Stella , Mo., in 2005. Rita was a hardworkin­g and devoted homemaker and held the position of “supervisor” of their family farm. She enjoyed gardening, caring for her home and spending time with her family, especially her grandchild­ren.

She was preceded in death by her father; her beloved husband, Dwaine McCarty; and one sister, Valerie Skaggs. Rita is survived by her three sons, Kevin McCarty and wife, Steffanie, of Gentry, Arkansas, Cody McCarty of Stella, Mo., and Travis Skaggs and wife, Kristen, of Neosho, Mo.; seven grandchild­ren, Cory, Dakota, Logan, Dylan, Alyssa, Brayden and Emma Grace; her mother, Anna Mae Snodgrass of Hindsville, Ark.; two sisters, Kim Green of Hindsville and Cheryl Koester of Bartlesvil­le, Okla.; four brothers, Larry Ridenoure of Republic, Mo., Johnny Skaggs of Pea Ridge, Ark., Marvin Skaggs of Elm Springs, Ark., and Randy Skaggs of Brentwood, Ark.; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. McCarty are 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2018, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Bobby Main officiatin­g. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery near Stella, Mo.

Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearer­s are Kevin McCarty, Cody McCarty, Travis Skaggs, Randy Skaggs, Dakota McCarty, Cory McCarty and Logan Watts. Dylan McCarty and Brayden Watts will be serving as honorary pallbearer­s.
