Steven Jordan, 55, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018, in Fayetteville. He was born June 7, 1962, in Fayetteville, Ark., to Joy J. Jordan and Lillie (Barzell) Johnson.
He was a public inspector for the City of Fayetteville Engineering Department and a member of Central United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charlie Jordan and father in law, Eathel Middleton.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Jordan; three sons, Colby Jordan of Kansas City, Mo., Braden and Carson Jordan of Fayetteville, Ark.; one sister, Diane Thomas and husband Terry of Prairie Grove, Ark.; sister-in-law, Sandy Jordan of Springdale, Ark.; mother-inlaw,
Charlene Middleton of Harrison, Ark.; sister-in-law, Debbie Ruff and husband Wayne of Harrison, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Visitation will be at Central United Methodist Church Activities Center on Tuesday, May 29, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. with a Celebration of Life beginning at 3 p.m. with Reverend Carl Palmer and Billy Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
Mark was born and raised in Fayetteville and was a true Fayettevillain through and through. He was a Washington Wildcat, Woodland Cowboy and Fayetteville Bulldog. He met Sandy in 1984, and they soon knew they were the loves of each other’s lives. They were married in 1986 and had three wonderful sons. They treasured being parents and spent as much time as possible hanging out with their kids. It was very common to see them boating, fishing, riding four-wheelers, hunting, enjoying sporting events, and pretty much anything else that allowed them to be together and enjoy each other’s company. Mark’s family was absolutely the center of his world and he loved them to the depths of his soul. His family truly appreciates the lengths he went to in order to ensure their comfort, happiness and security and will always love him beyond measure.
To most people, Mark was better known as “Jolly”, and there is no doubt that the nickname fit him perfectly. His fun-loving personality, wide smile, unconditional acceptance, and quick handshake would light up the room. In Jolly’s world, every day was a good day, and he loved to spread that spirit to others. Everyone in his life knew that if they ever needed anything, he would do his very best to help. If he didn’t know you, he would make a point to find a common connection and build from there. The exact number of lives he touched will never truly be known. However, while in the hospital, an estimated three hundred friends from all walks of life came to wish him well. Jolly is proof that by treating others the way you want to be treated, you will continually be blessed.
Jolly adored his community and was involved in so many different aspects of the city he loved! You might have encountered him flipping burgers at the baseball field, tailgating at the UofA, inspecting new projects around town, shaking the hands of all public service members, supporting Bulldog athletics, conversing with visitors during Bikes, Blues and BBQ , or all around the city just giving back and being “Jolly”, the man we all knew and loved!
Mark “Jolly’ Jordan was all about being willing to lend a helping hand in any way he could. It would make him so happy to know that as we pursue this journey on earth, each one of us will continue his legacy by looking for ways to extend acts of kindness to those we encounter each day.
