■ Harvey Weinstein was charged Monday with a sex crime against a third woman, as New York prosecutors continue building cases against the former Hollywood studio boss whose downfall ushered in the #MeToo movement. Manhattan’s district attorney announced the charges in an updated indictment, saying Weinstein performed a forcible sex act on the woman in 2006. “A Manhattan grand jury has now indicted Harvey Weinstein on some of the most serious sexual offenses that exist under New York’s penal law,” District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said in a statement. “Our investigation continues. If you are a survivor of the predatory abuse with which Mr. Weinstein is charged, there is still time to pursue justice.” Vance said Weinstein was charged with another count of criminal sexual act and two counts of predatory sexual assault. The latter carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. The district attorney’s representatives did not identify the accuser in the updated charges. Ben Brafman, a lawyer for Weinstein, said the 66-yearold will plead innocent to the charge. A grand jury previously indicted Weinstein on charges involving two women and incidents in 2013 and 2004. Separately, More than 75 women have accused Weinstein of wrongdoing. Weinstein has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex, with his attorney challenging the credibility of his alleged victims.
■ Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has characterized President Donald Trump as “the most undemocratic president in modern American history” but stopped short of labeling him a fascist during a television show broadcast from London. Albright, who served during the administration of President Bill Clinton, appeared on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday where she was asked about her book Fascism: A Warning and whether she considers Trump to be a fascist. “I do not think he is a fascist,” Albright said. “I do think he is the most undemocratic president in modern American history, and that troubles me. And by the way, it’s not easy as a former diplomat to be in a foreign country and criticize one’s own president,” Albright added. “But I am concerned. Fascism is hard to define, by the way,” she told Marr, “but a fascist leader is somebody who identifies himself with one group, tribal of some kind, in order to really isolate and insulate the people that are disagreed with. Ultimately a fascist leader is somebody who uses violence to achieve what he wants. So I do not think that Trump is a fascist leader,” Albright continued, “but I think his attitude towards freedom of speech and the role of the media and his disregard for institutions worries me.”
