Need unbiased judges
So now we have a vacancy on the Supreme Court. We all remember the last year of Barack Obama’s term when the Republican-controlled Senate refused, for a year, to consider a nominee from the Democratic president.
Now we expect, with a Republican-controlled Senate, a Republican-controlled House, and a Republican president for an extreme right-wing judge to be appointed quickly.
But isn’t there something wrong here? Shouldn’t an appointee, for life, to our Supreme Court be above politics? Shouldn’t he or she judge cases on their merit according to the Constitution and not based on their party loyalty?
It’s one of the biggest disgraces in this country that our Supreme Court judges cases not on their merit but according to which political party appointed them to the court. That’s why this appointment by Donald Trump will be a political appointment, and that’s why the Democrats will fight it all the way.
What a disgrace our U.S. Supreme Court is! It’s an arm of a political party, not an unbiased collection of learned judges who try to come to a fair and just decision. They just vote politically. And if they suggest they come to their decisions based on the Constitution, then perhaps the Constitution is a seriously flawed document and should be entirely rewritten.
No, the Constitution is basically OK (with lots and lots and lots of amendments, it must be remembered). What we need is unbiased judges. Surely we have some somewhere, don’t we? Or perhaps not.
