Martin, Hooks too much for Naturals

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corbin Martin allowed just four hits over five innings, leading the Corpus Christi Hooks over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in a 4-0 win on Saturday.

Martin (6-1) struck out three to pick up the win.

All four runs for Corpus Christi came in the first inning, when Josh Rojas hit a two-run double and then scored on a two-run single by Lorenzo Quintana.

Scott Blewett (4-5) went five innings, allowing four runs and five hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out four and walked two. Framber Valdez pitched four scoreless innings for his first save of the season.

The Naturals were blanked for the fourth time this season, while the Hooks’ staff recorded their seventh shutout of the year.

Corpus Christi improved to 8-2 against NW Arkansas this season.

SAN ANTONIO 7, ARKANSAS 2

Peter Van Gansen had three hits and three RBI, and Chris Paddack allowed just one hit over six innings as the San Antonio Missions defeated the Arkansas Travelers.

Paddack (1-0) picked up the win after he struck out five and walked one while allowing one run.

Trailing 1-0, the Missions took the lead for good with five runs in the second inning. Ty France hit a threerun triple en route to the four-run lead.

The Missions later tacked on a run in both the third and eighth innings. In the third, Van Gansen hit an RBI single before he singled to score Webster Rivas in the eighth.

Max Povse (4-3) went six innings, allowing six runs and seven hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out four and walked four.
