Springdale man among four killed in state road wrecks

At least four people died in separate road accidents in Arkansas on Sunday and Monday.

A 20-year-old man died early Monday after the vehicle he was driving overturned in Northwest Arkansas, according to a report from Arkansas State Police.

Authorities said the wreck happened at 4:25 a.m. Monday on Arkansas 112 near its intersection with Har- Ber Avenue in Tontitown.

Ryan Smith of Springdale lost control of his Ford F-150 on a curve, the report states. The pickup then traveled off the road and overturned.

Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the Washington County wreck, authorities said.

A 69-year- old Arkansas man driving the wrong way on Interstate 40 was killed in a crash Monday morning, authorities said.

The wreck occurred shortly after 6:15 a.m. near the Crittenden County community of Lehi.

Charley Warren of Hughes was traveling east in the interstate’s westbound lanes when his Chevrolet Impala hit a cable barrier and then a concrete barrier, a preliminary report states. The car then traveled off the road and ended up in a ditch.

Authorities did not specify why Warren was driving the wrong way. He suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

The report stated the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the wreck.

A 29- year- old Arkansas woman was killed in a one- vehicle crash in Hot Springs early Monday, state police said.

The wreck happened shortly after 12:45 a.m. near the intersection of Chattanooga Park and Fargo Street.

According to a preliminary report, 30-year-old Dennis L. Wallace Jr. of Hot Springs was driving east on Chattanooga Park in a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis when the car crossed the street’s centerline and traveled off the left side of the road.

The vehicle then hit a concrete wall and a tree, authorities said. A passenger — Shayla Nichole Kriese of Hot Springs — was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states. Wallace was listed as injured.

State police said the road was dry and the weather was clear at the time of the crash.

A Texas man was killed Sunday afternoon when he was ejected from an SUV that crashed in rainy weather on an Arkansas road, state police said.

The single-vehicle wreck occurred at 2 p.m. Sunday near the Miller County city of Genoa, according to a preliminary report.

Authorities said 29-yearold Willie Savage of Nashville, Tenn., was driving north on County Road 57 when he lost control of his 2003 Nissan Murano and veered off the east side of the road, hitting multiple trees.

A passenger in the back seat — 23-year-old Samuel Butler of Wake Village, Texas — died after he was ejected from the SUV, the report states.

Authorities wrote that Savage and another passenger, 31-year-old Nashville, Tenn., resident Sakonia Savage, were hurt.

State police said it was raining at the time of the wreck.
