Blood center seeks donors

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks strives for area blood reserves to be at around a three-day supply for all blood types. At the time of this release, the blood center has at least a three-day supply of all types. Since it takes around 200 donations per day to meet area needs, the public is urged to continue to help by donating at a CBCO blood drive or donor center near them.

Recipients honored

The Washington County Farm Bureau is holding a cookout to honor the 15 recipients of their $1,000 scholarshi­ps at 6:30 p.m. July 26 at the Washington County Farm Bureau, 1165 Meadowland­s Drive in Fayettevil­le. The bureau awards scholarshi­ps to members of the organizati­on regardless of GPA or the college or technical school that the student chooses to attend.

Caregiving is topic

Hope for the Future is an annual caregiver workshop held in Fayettevil­le through which Alzheimer’s Arkansas reaches out to caregivers across Arkansas. This daylong workshop provides family and profession­al caregivers with general informatio­n regarding Alzheimer’s disease and its progressio­n; tools, knowledge and techniques to improve caregiving skills; and informatio­n concerning resources available to caregivers and Alzheimer’s patients through vendor exhibits. Hope for the Future will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. July 27 at Central United Methodist Church, 6 W. Dickson St. in Fayettevil­le.

Caregivers, both family and profession­als, attend from across Arkansas. Family caregivers attend free of charge, unless requesting continuing education credits. Reimbursem­ent for respite care to allow family caregivers to attend the workshop is also available. Continuing education credits (CEU’s) are available for nurses, nursing home administra­tors, occupation­al therapists and occupation­al therapy assistants, physical therapists, pharmacist­s, psychologi­sts, emergency medical services, social workers and certified nursing assistants. UAFS to host town halls

The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith will host two town halls this summer — one at 6 p.m. July 31 for candidates in the Fort Smith board of directors race, and a second at noon Aug. 2 for Fort Smith mayoral candidates.

The board of directors town hall will take place in the theater of Windgate Art & Design, 535 N. Waldron Road, while the mayoral town hall will be held in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraf­t Campus Center, 800 N. 49th St. Both events are free and open to the public.

Robyn Dawson, Sam Price and Libby Piatt are the three declared candidates for the at-large position 5 on the board of directors, while Rep. George McGill, Wayne Haver and Luis Andrade are running for mayor of Fort Smith. In each town hall, the candidates will field questions from UAFS students and community members on their respective visions for Fort Smith.

RHS 1973 sets reunion

Rogers High School class of 1973 will celebrate its 45th reunion Sept. 28 and 29, in conjunctio­n with the Rogers High School homecoming football game against Fayettevil­le. Classmates may participat­e in the parade, tailgating before the game on Sept. 28 and a social gathering at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Holiday Inn & Suites with a live band which will play music from the 1970s. Dress is casual and all events are free.
