Supporters of president blinded by ‘love affair’

They say that when you are in love you often overlook the faults of your hero. Trump has been quoted as saying that he could shoot someone down in the street and his fans would still support him. Maybe the victim had shown him disrespect by commenting on the size of his hands or questioning whether he cheats at golf. According to comments by his supporters, he could not be prosecuted for such a crime, and if convicted he could pardon himself. What would our founding fathers think of this twisted reasoning? You might ask yourself how long will this love affair last. Who knows? How long were authoritarian figures such as Mao Se Tung, Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler in office? Maybe when his fans begin to realize that their hero has sold them a bill of goods.

When Trump brags about causing the reduction in federal income taxes that helps the middle class, in truth it was a windfall for the wealthy and would only benefit the rest of us if the discredited “trickle-down theory” worked. According to this theory, cutting taxes for corporations causes their profits to rise and provides money to raise employees’ salaries. Instead, the increase in corporate profits allows them to buy back their corporate stock, causing the market price to increase, which only benefits wealthy stockholders. The actions of the president ordering the repeal of laws that provide clean air and water for the country make it so big corporations, such as automobile and coal companies, can increase their profits, once again at the expense of the public. Consider his refusal to concede that global warming is a very serious problem; this is just another example of where his interests are in putting the fortunes of the wealthy ahead of the common man.

He is still hard at work to dismantle Obama care, despite the fact that a majority of voters favor it and his efforts have only caused an increase in the cost and have resulted in questions about the coverage of pre-existing conditions. The increase in cost is not a problem for the wealthy since they have money to burn.

Under normal conditions the above should cause his base to soften, but we all know that today times are different. Many of his followers will go to their graves making excuses for Trump’s unforgivable performance as our president.

There is also the love affair Trump is having with his buddy Putin. He fawns over this thug as if his history of murdering opponents, cyber warfare against the United States voters, and governmental corruption never existed. There are two explanations for this strange behavior. He may still be trying to pay Putin back for getting him elected as our president and/or he needs to keep Putin happy because he has information about Trump’s visits to Moscow that would ruin his future in politics.
