MIAMI UNIVERSITY
Corinne Lauderback of Cave Springs is a 2018 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS
Jocelynn Osornio of Rogers and Isabella McPherson of Farmington, both freshmen, were chosen for the honors college Path Program this fall at the University of Arkansas.
Osornio recently graduated from Rogers Heritage High School. She plans to major in nursing in the college of education and health professions. She is the daughter of Ester Osornio.
McPherson recently graduated from Farmington High School. She plans to major in biology in the J. William Fulbright college of arts and sciences. She is the daughter of Robert McPherson.
The Path Program recruits high school students from underrepresented populations and helps them achieve academic success. Both girls will receive up to $5,500 in renewable scholarships.
The incoming group of Path students has already started a five-week summer bridge program. The students will work with faculty for an introduction to research and form groups centered on specific research interests. Path students also receive shared housing, academic advising, peer and professional mentoring, study abroad, research and internship opportunities.
SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY
Hunter Eads, a graduate of Har-Ber High School in Springdale, recently attended the 63rd annual band camp at Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford.
HAAS HALL ACADEMY
Taneesha Mohapatra, a sophomore at Haas Hall Academy in Bentonville, was a delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders on June 25-27 in Lowell, Mass.
The honors program for high school students works to inspire, motivate and direct students who want to be physicians or medical scientists. Participants heard about leading medical research, received advice on what to expect in medical school, witnessed patient stories, and learned about advances and the future in medicine and medical technology.
Mohapatra was nominated by Dr. Mario Capecchi, winner of the Nobel Prize in medicine and the science director of the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists, to represent Arkansas based on her academic achievement, leadership potential and determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine.
MIDWESTERN STATE UNIVERSITY
Kathryn M. Miser of Rogers and Tyler Lee Clark of Springdale are 2018 graduates of Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Miser received a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene and graduated summa cum laude, with a gradepoint average of 3.9 to 4.0.
Clark received a bachelor of business administration in management.
UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS
Marketing EDGE awarded a total of $3,500 to students at University of Arkansas, when the school’s teams won gold and silver for undergraduate participation in Collegiate ECHO Marketing Challenge.
Gold-winning team members included Hillary Frank, Amanda Millan, Sydney Richardson, Emily Todd and Sarah Van Doorn, led by faculty advisor Ignatius Fosu.
The silver team included Brooke Borgognoni, Emily Langenfeld, Julia Wright and Jeffrey Wilson, also led by Fosu.
The teams were honored for their proposed marketing plans to promote Fossil’s Smart Q Watches among 18- to 35-year-olds. Teams createe and pitched their marketing campaigns, with a theoretical $5 million budget, to Fossil’s marketing team.
GRACELAND UNIVERSITY
The women’s soccer team at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, was named a scholar team for the 2017-2018 academic year by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), with a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 among team members.
Keely Compton and Micayla Faught, both of Rogers, are members of the soccer team.
UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT LITTLE ROCK
Sabah Ismail and Hannah Krehbiel, both of Fort Smith, were named Donaghey Scholars at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Ismail is majoring in political science, and Krehbiel in anthropology and chemistry.
The Donaghey Scholars Program is based on academic record, test scores, leadership ability, community service, interest in other cultures, recommendation letters, admissions essays and interviews. Student receive full tuition and fees, a stipend, financial assistance to study abroad, a housing subsidy and a new laptop. The program emphasizes critical thinking, writing, discussion and project-based learning that engages with the city of Little Rock.
