■ Daniel Silitonga of Indonesia’s national police said the Equanimity, a $250 million yacht allegedly bought with funds stolen from a Malaysian state investment company, is on its way to be returned to Malaysia after a monthslong dispute over its seizure in the corruption scandal.

■ William Gross, who joined Boston’s police force in 1985 and has said his friends thought he was crazy for wanting to be a cop because of tensions between police and communitie­s of color, is set to take the reins as the city’s first black police commission­er.

■ Dakota Claypole, 23, of Branson was sentenced to 21 years in prison for fatally shooting 22-year-old Daxton Drake in January 2017 after walking in on Drake in bed with a woman both men were involved with.

■ Jimmy Dallan Nelms, a Mississipp­i politician who pleaded guilty to embezzleme­nt in 2015, was back in jail, authoritie­s in Corinth said, after his name showed up in a check of pawnshop gun sales, since he’s a convicted felon and is not allowed to possess firearms.

■ Vasillios Pistolis, a Marine who was identified as a member of a white supremacis­t group involved in violence during last summer’s white nationalis­t rally in Charlottes­ville, Va., was kicked out of the military after being convicted at a court-martial and serving his jail sentence.

■ Robert Runcie, the superinten­dent in Parkland, Fla., sent a letter to parents of students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 students and faculty were slain on Valentine’s Day, saying that plans for metal detectors at school entrances are on hold until the School Board resolves logistical issues.

■ Tony Underwood, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office in Union County, S.C., said a 9-year-old lost the proceeds from his lemonade stand when a teenager placed a black handgun to the boy’s stomach, demanded money and then fled on foot.

■ John Beehler, the president of Alabama’s Jacksonvil­le State University, said 22 mobile homes, which the university is using to house students after a tornado in March damaged dozens of buildings on campus, “are so nice I think the students will actually enjoy living in them.”

■ Demi Lovato, in her first public statement since an overdose put her into the hospital in late July, said she remains committed to overcoming addiction and that “I will keep fighting,” but the singer-actress also said she needs time to heal and focus on her sobriety and recovery.
